I use a retractable USB optical travel mouse with my laptop. I got it for about $7 at Big Lots and it's been working great.

I have a (wooo) Logitech wireless keyboard that is actually a bit shit becasue it eats batteries like mad.

Also wirelss logitech mouse which is one of the more annoying things in my life.

I guess the problems only arise when I can't find the battery charger and it's too late to go out for batteries etc.

They don't recharge by themselves, do they? I use rechargeable batteries with the mouse, but the problem is that I need to recharge them every other day.
The mouse tends to fuck up even when it's fully charged.
