Scalzi on vox/guitar, Jamie Myers on bass, and Sigrid Sheie on a 250lb Hammond Organ (no shit, it took the entire right half of the stage):

I had a bunch of other pics, but they came out pretty dark. Not worth uploading. Also, got a few MPEGS (too dark for image, but picked up some sound - not great quality - shitty little camera got all distorted up for some reason).

Anyway, the show was outstanding. I really didn't know what to expect, but these guys are total masters of their art. Really, just total improvisation and completely meshing together, and the fact that they've all been playing for years really shines through.

The tour is completely self-financed. Sigrid quit her job to go on the road. They're either sleeping in the tour bus, or staying with friends (or friends of friends) at each pit stop. They're playing a different city almost every night. Had a hiccup a week or so ago where they 'lost' Scalzi's main guitar and Jamie's bass. Had to somehow recouperate, get new equipment, and get back on the road.

Honestly, I can't say enough about this performance. Very humble band that was able to blow away the audience. Good litmus test: a friend of mine, Dave, goes to all the shows and I wasn't expecting to see him there, but he tagged along with two girls who used to live in San Fran and know the Hammers pretty well. Anyway, he's a huge death/doom fan, but pretty much appreciates anything from Maiden to Khanate. In his words, halfway through, as he leaned over and said "this is just about as perfect as it can get". Sums it up really. Needless to say, he bought the vinyl, Bastard CD, and a shirt on the way out the door.

Also, Hammers made the press in Time Out New York City I hear. Obviously word is beginning to spread, because some of the fans were all Greenwich Village types. You know, into all the cult indie alternative stuff. I'd say about 120 people showed up for the gig.

Set list (not all in order):

The August Engine Part 1 (blinding work by Scalzi by the way)
The Dragon is Summoned
*gets blurry*
Everything off The August Engine except for The Trial and the Grave
Hunting Tyrant
You Should have Slain me (creamed my pants #1)
Tyrant Dies (creamed my pants #2)

....AND!!! 3 new songs from The Locust Years. Un-FUCKING-believable. Seriously, to all those waiting for the new one, this stuff rules (at least in a live setting). Also, fans of The August Engine won't be disappointed, with it following on in that vein. Actually, one song was pretty much all out thrash riffs (with obligatory hammond organ harmonies, heh).

That is all.

I got some awesome shots ... no worries ... you can use them :)

total agreement ... they can make fans on the spot ... very instant band ... good sense of humor ... I was hoping they would not take themselves too seriously and they don't .. just fucking pure r'n r

wow ... that explains the brand new bass ... was just going through my pics and noticed she had a shiny new bass ... but that story explains it

sorry i did not pick up that Bastard CD ... and that long sleeve was sweet (same one as on their site) ... although I do not wear any metal gear anymore .. as JK can attest to :) ... i did like that damn shirt

I must thank my friend for his 6.1 mpx digital SLR camera ... which if damaged ... his wife would have chopped my nuts off.
The original pics are actually 2 times the size of the above links ... and I have a shitload more ... if you are creative and know how to substitute numbers above .. you can see the rest.

JK ... you said the band wanted some good pics ... where can I sent it to them? Any idea?

when I get some extra cash, and have fulfilled my want list, I'll look into getting these CDs. Will I lke this band? be honest...

You nailed it. Gothic power metal ain't my thang. Some of the music was pretty cool, especially The Witches' Dance, but then they had to open their mouths. Maybe if they were an instrumental band..... :loco:

Awesome pics - seems like that camera has a built in spotlight! They would absolutely love the pics - they were even asking for people to tape the show so they could bootleg the new stuff and distribute it.

I would suggest waiting for the tour to end, and then sending Cobbett an e-mail. Either that or contact Cruz del Sur (the label) - they are a friendly bunch.

Having said that, I'm not sure if this kinda stuff works in a live setting...
it doesn't ... like my friend said .. it is "slash your wrist" music.
the whole atmosphere was such a downer during their set (which was obviously what they were going for)

These pictures rule.

I am concerned though, the Long Beach shows are still TBA, and Ticketmaster doesn't show anything listed for the band, or High on Fire in Phoenix, Frisco, and down here (are they touring with them the whole time? There's a show in San Diego listed.). :(
