Okay, let's do a fun thread thingy here...

Do you guys download more or do you buy more?

And also... Do you own all of the Into Eternity albums or do you have them downloaded on the PC?

Don't forget to be honest!

I buy all of my albums.... I guess I like the full package as opposed to downloaded stuff from the internet.

I own all of their albums but I've downloaded them into my computer lol. With such a good band like this, I don't ever want to chance being away from their music haha.

By the way, I'm new to this board. Hiya, I'm Marleah :)

I own all the albums as well, however I did discover Into Eternity after downloading Dead Or Dreaming (the song) and Unholy (Fields Of The Dead). I downloaded the self-titled album until I could purchase the real thing, which I finally did on Ebay, it's one of those Russian copies.

I was given the Dead or Dreaming then an ex broke it (along with 30 others) so I bought it again..... Buried in Oblivion I was given and it was stolen, so I bought another copy... I'm slowly downloading  the very first album...

True story!

I won all of them, including the very first album (Thanks Ebay). I do have those albums uploaded on my computer.... When you have over 800 cds and don't really organize them properly, it's quite hard to find what you're looking for.... lol

Bought BiO and DoD, won s/t off ebay. I buy almost all my metal cd's because the bands need as much support as they can get

If your goal is to support the bands, buy shirts.

cd sales go more toward the label than the band... bands usually get a dollar or less per cd. And that isn't a dollar per band member, that's a dollar for the band- so split that 5 ways.

That said, I buy as often as I can, and I do own all of IE's cds.

Agreed!!!

I own all IE's albums! and I have bought both Dead and Dreaming and Buried in Oblivion twice ... I admit that I downloaded BIO back in march of '04 to see what they were like since they were playing PPV and was completely blown away and bought all the albums soon after ... in general I used to DL alot more 2 years ago than I do now ... I only download Bootlegs nowadays 1 or 2 a month maybe and I buy a good 10 to 15 cds a month :D ... honest enough? :loco:

I very rarely download a whole album, or burn a cd-r. I can afford to buy the ones I really like to have, although I do get a lot of promos these days, but most of those are not the bands I'd otherwise buy albums of.

I own all IE discs:

self titled
- with the green cover (self financed)
- DVS regular
- Russian pressing licensed by DVS - so not that people think "those Russian ones" are pirates, they are licensed)

Dead Or Dreaming
- DVS
- Russian licensed by DVS
(so I'm missing the Century Media re-issue)

Buried In Oblivion
- cardboard wallet promo
- Century Media (USA)

I think that's it :)

Buying merch at the gigs is the best way to support the band directly, but let's not forget that even though the label makes more money off a cd than the band (I guess), it still is VERY important. Because it will depend on those record sales whether a band will be put on tours, festivals, get a decent enough budget for a next album etc.

Buy all my cds. I own 2 copies of each IE album, one of each to listen too, and one of each that are autographed and will never leave the case.

I buy them mostly... I download stuff only if I dont know the band and wanna know about it and if I like it I buy it of course.
I unfortunately only have the latest IE album (again thanx to rob for that great present last year at rockhard festival!!!) and idiot as I am I missed to buy the other ones on the last tour... well next time... :)

i do d/l a lot of cds, but thats basically how i hear new bands & its from there whether i decide to buy the cd or not. most often, its something worth buying & i do get around to it whenever i can. i buy a TON more used cds than new ones. just in the last 2 weeks i found & bought these used cds

necrophagist - onset & epitaph
edge of sanity - crimson
nevermore - godless endeavor
lord gore - the autophagus orgy
rebealliun - bvrn the promised land
kataklysm - serenity in fire
wintersun - s/t
finntroll - nattfodd
wynjara - human plague
carcass - swansong (finally completes the carcass collection)
vehemence - helping the world to see
yyrkoon - occult medicine
alarum - eventuality
einherjer - blot
dismember - hate campaign
demonoid - riders of the apocalypse
enslaved - monumension
1349 - liberation

needless to say, i spent a lot of money, but it was well worth it. in between hauls of used cds, i'll buy between 1-3 new cds a month.

i download lots. basically because of what someone mentioned earlier about cd sales not really making a band much money. however, i do recognize that record sales is an important indicator that labels use for lots of reasons. so, i try and buy what i can to support who i think really needs/deserves it. i really just do most of my supporting through t-shirts, merch, and obviously going to the show.

I would never know what to buy if I couldnt download...I have taken risks and droped a tone of jack on cds of bands I have never herd...but that doesnt always work out...now I buy shirts.

Wintersun's great. I got that a couple months ago- awesome blend of styles.

yea i know, great cd. when i heard Jari left ensiferum i was pissed until i heard wintersun & got another great band out of it. wintersun has been near the top of my list for cds to buy at full price, so i'm glad i found it used.

well i guess i wont be doing ANY downloading now that Winmx is shut down!!!
winmx sux... I use bit torrent communities
i'm sure you can google and come up with a site to help you out.

you want honesty? here i go:
I download everything (yeah i said it). i hate CDs. i barely have any space in my room, CDs take up physical space. if i really REALLY like a band i'll buy their CD. most likely at a show. and i won't pay more than 10 bux for it since i'm poor as fuck (i literally have $0 to my name and my parents wouldnt' support me buying 10 CDs a week ($100) they just give me some money to pay for mass transit (can't afford a car) and food).

now here's what i think: support can be done in many forms. i like to promote bands and spread the word. if i won't buy it maybe they will. also i'd rather have a shirt than a freakin CD. yeah a CD sounds better than an mp3, but i find mp3s 1000 times more convienient. i don't burn audio CDs, unless i want a quick mix for my friend to check them out because he has 56k and doesn't download because of it (and can't download at college). in fact most of my CDs just wind up in his car. anyway back to other forms of support: go see them live. if you downloaded them and see them live, ur still supporting the band. I also delete any band i don't like as well as regularly go through my music and delete any band i don't like anymore (recently i got rid of my stratavarious, yeah you heard me).

also any band that wants to send me a demo, i always request that they e-mail it to me or send it over aim, since it saves them on shipping and production costs and someone else can actually purchase that CD.
on top of all of this: most of what i listen to can't be bought at most stores in the US without paying over 15 bux. i usually buy online, but even thats annoying at times and is becomming increasingly expensive.
i also will rarely buy EVERY album a band has done. but i am proud to say that i have both Dead or Dreaming AND Buried in Oblivion.

Into Eternity has become one of my favorite bands. and why? because i was offered to interview them. after being offered i figured i'd check them out. i was then blown away live.
downloading is the way of the future. once connection speeds allow it you'll be downloading uncompressed 96khz/24bit recordings straight from the bands/label. maybe not for free, but you'll still be able to do it, and it'll be higher quality than a freaking CD. and honestly, if they did that instead of Itunes (mp3 quality with DRM), i'd buy it. i wouldn't care if the 96/24bit sound file had DRM because it would sound good.

if i were a label that would be the FIRST thing i'd do when i heard about the internet. i've seen many MANY sound systems that are 192khz/24bit or higher. why not make full use of it?
