Only if you're a South African

The real question is where the emphasis lies. Is it Oh-peth or Oh-peth?
I hear it pronounced in two different ways. The way I pronounce it doesn't put emphasis on the second syllable. I believe that's what the original poster was trying to communicate, as an unstressed short E sound will sound somewhat like a short I sound. However, I also hear it pronounced with emphasis on both syllables.

I could have sworn I saw an interview with Mikael where he pronounced it in the former manner, but perhaps I'm remembering incorrectly. Regardless, I prefer the former pronunciation, as the latter sounds a bit odd.

This reminds me of an argument I had with a Chilean housemate, I pronounce Chile - 'chilly' whereas his pronounciation is 'chee-leh'....and he gave me stick about it. So I told him to start speaking properly, none of this Chilean accent nonsense....we dont speak much anymore.

Back to topic though - It is O-peth

I have spoken

although it did remind me the times I had problems with pronouncing Meshuggah

and I'm still not sure how to pronounce Chuck Schuldiner :erk: any help?
