How much would you pay...

Well I don't know if I can quote a price, because by the time I'd be able to afford it, I don't think I'd care! :D Cool idea though...

Oh, and I'd probably have to pay more to have him/her (well, let's be honest here - him) put up with my constant questions

I'm sure after giving him an NFR of our software, Matt Bayles would let me sit in on the next ISIS record!

This made me laugh:

The rate is $1,350.00 per 10 hour day. From the third day on the rate goes down to $1,250.00/day and for a whole 5 day week it's only $6,100.00.

There is a two day minimum if I have to travel more than 50 miles outside of Nashville, and a five day minimum for workshops outside the continental US.

Of course I have to get there and stay somewhere, so travel and hotels are on you. Any clean hotel with room service is fine, high speed internet access in the room and a small refrigerator is a must. Economy class flights are OK for direct flights under 4 hours. Flights longer than 4 hours total travel time should be business class or better. There will be a charge of $400.00 for each travel day.

This made me laugh:

<snip>

Errr ... why?

Those are totally reasonable demands. Nothing fancy there, except maybe the business class flights, but you never know if there aren't any reasons for that. I actually thought everything was phrased quite modestly.

I guess it's all a matter of perspective, but I don't find his day rates very high. I charge more for photography on a regular basis ...

I've flown A LOT in my 21 years, and never once upgraded to business class (well, I've always been with my parents, so it was their choice, but I agreed wholeheartedly) - being a little more comfy is not worth an extra like $400, how much of a spoiled vagina do you have to be to think that? Then again, I'm referring to commoners like myself, if you're an expert being brought in for people to pick your brain, I can see why you'd want good treatment. And if they can afford everything else, I think they can afford Business class, christ!

Wow Metal... I'm 23, and I've been to Ibiza, Belgium, and Berlin... going to Japan next week... so thats four trips in 23 years... I doubt you're as common as you think ;)

Im only 17 and I've lived in Australia, New Zeland, The US, and Britain (and 4 different houses so far in britain). We've traveled so much because of my dads old job. It's crazy. :loco:

Anyway, back on topic, I think I would probably pay about £400 a day to sit in on a session with a top metal producer at a top class high end studio. It would be cool to do hands on and stuff aswell, even if its just rigging mic's and stuff.

Oh yeah, and bussiness class is pointless, and ridiculously overpriced compared to economy which is actually pretty good on most modern planes, except obviously the food is shite.:puke:

I fly 6-8 times a month 4-5 hours each time for my job and I've never flown business class and I'm fine with it... I think the demands are a little outrageous myself. Who gives a shit if you're an audio expert? Why does that mean you deserve to be more comfortable than anyone else? People who put themselves above other people like that are scum.

I think your rate with $2500 is rather cheap F0RBIDDEN.

Me and my band are going to record with Jörg Uken (not even a class A producer, but nevertheless a really good one) at Studio Soundlodge in November.
For 8 days recording and mixing we're going to pay like 1500 euro's, that includes sleepover, use of backline and that's really really cheap.

Haha, well maybe "commoner" was the wrong word, and "mere mortal" would've been important, cuz all times I've flown have been going with my Dad, both to Italy & England when he was a professional trumpeter, and to Paris & Germany last summer (and hopefully Scotland next summer) now that he's retired from gigging and focuses on being a signal instrument (bugals, posthorns, etc.) historian, getting invited to all sorts of conferences, including Bangkok, Thailand 3 years ago, which he didn't bring us my Mom and I on  In other words, flying just for vacation (at least for me).

And F0RBIDDEN, I share your frustration with high and mighty people, but I do think that if you're some high-ranking exec/expert in your field being flown in for your expertise, you deserve to be made comfy.

I'm not talking about recording there with my band and paying them for their services. I'm just talking about paying them to let you be there to watch another band record and watch the producer work on the mix. Like a "Take a fan to work day" sort of deal...

I'd feel like a moron to pay thousands of dollars to watch someone do their job. Am I the only person here who thinks "WTF?!"
Okay, maybe not so much of a moron as long as they threw in a couple free pees and poops at no extra charge.

:headbang:
