How old were you when you started smoking ?.

Did you mean 'where smoking was banned'? I'm pretty sure it's not worded correctly. Quit being a jackass.

No, it's were, because he's talking about something hypothetically. It's called the subjunctive tense. Pretty awesome that an Indian dude speaks better English than you. :p

Most people in foreign nations who have learned English as a second language learned the proper way. I didn't, apparently, but English is my first language.

That still doesn't seem right. It still seems as though he's missing a word or two in that sentence.

Whatever.

Fuck the subjunctive tense.

Uhhh, no I'm pretty sure that guy's sentence was ungrammatical. I don't think he used the subjunctive properly. By the way, the subjunctive is a mood, not a tense.

...Shit, I was hoping no one would notice that. I saw that on Wikipedia right after posting.

I still think Cryptal's sentence was grammatical. Please explain why you think it isn't.

I'm really too lazy to think of why it sounds wrong to me. It just sounds wrong, and I use the subjunctive all the time. I don't know, maybe the sentence is fine.

Someone wish me luck.
Trying to quit.
I'm going on 2 days without a smoke. The trick is chewing gum because it decreases the urge and keeps you preoccupied. Tomorrow is Friday...and I usually drink a Shitton on Fridays so that is going to be the ultimate test to see if I can withdraw from smoking.
