How would you go at getting that kind of snare? (not metal)

I'm used to metal drums, and I don't know where to start for this kind of snare.

Raw samples? Compressed samples? Blended?
How do get smack and 1.5k-ness without getting it fucked up?

Thanks!

Ya, this song came out before the ball clap samples were available.

Does sound like a fake snare with hand claps.

Yeah I wondered if there was a clap hidden in there. I'm really not used to producing beats haha. :)

I know this isn't a real snare, but when you guys say it's fake, do you say it comes from a module and wasn't really touched or it started out as a small sample then got treated + mixed in with a clap to sound like this?

could even throw some side stick hits (rim Shots)
to give it more bite i guess.

I'm pretty sure the base drums for that song were from loops, then they added stuff over the snare hits.

What it's about is recreating something similar to the sound of those loops.

Except if you mean they made 'em from fruity loops? A buddy of mine has Fruity Loops Studio 9, might as well ask him if that's the case.

Thanks Mike.

I've been messing with Superior as the earlier version of the song had normal programmed drums, and so I've been replacing the kick with a mix of the paramore one and a trance one, compressing and eqing the snare to hell and adding a (slightly pitch-shifted down) clap to it.

In the week to come I'll probably post a link to a first mix of the song, thanks a lot for clearing this out for me though, I'll have a listen at some beats and might rip some samples off 'em.

Get your sampler of choice, and layer, then layer some more. Its not uncommon to have like a 808 snare a clap, a rim click and another snare in there somewhere as well.

Alright, I guess I'll end up frankensnaring the shit out of it.

I guess with those kind of drum tones, it's more about layering than processing?
