Missed Premonitions of War, got there shortly after the doors opened too, so I guess they had a miniscule set.
Satyricon was pretty cool. Heard that name tossed around a bunch, to me they sounded like what an evolving black metal band SHOULD sound like, instead of going the way of faggoth.
Suffocation ruled. I'm not familiar with these dudes (other than hearing the name and seeing the CDs for years), but it's pretty obvious they hold a lot of influence over the death and grind world. Definitely will pick some of theirs up, finally.
Morbid Angel started off poor, and ended up dominating the evening. Lots of new stuff which was hit and miss, but the material off Covenant (first half of God of Emptiness, World of Shit (Promised Land), RAPTURE!!!, and Pain Divine) and Domination (Where the Slime Live, Dawn of the Angry) were incredible.
Highlights:
*Morbid Angel playing Lord of All Fevers and Plague and an encore performance of Chapel of Ghouls. This is the stuff that dreams are made of.
*Some skinhead dude in the audience got into it with Suffocation's singer, during the middle of a song. Frank Mullen cussed the guy out, told him to get his ass up on stage, got security to go get the guy to bring him up there, and then the dude wussed out and they escorted him out of the building. Keep in mind this was during the middle of a song, but the band kept playing and Frank continued once the skinhead was gone. Afterwards he explained: "sorry about that, but that guy called my drummer a my pals, and seriously, I was going to fucking kill him on stage but I guess he didn't want that."
*Half a box of Animal Crackers awaited my return on my kitchen counter. Score.
