I have Antares Auto Tune 4 and haven't been able to figure out...

AP, I can't help but notice you've been having numerous problems with plugins not working, or certain aspects of them not working...

Are you sure you're installing your VSTs into a directory that PT is looking in?

Yes... I'm 100% sure I'm installing into a directory that Pro Tools is loading from... I'm going to buy vst2rtas version 2 and hope that works...

I don't know if this is a computer issue or a user error, but in the event that it's a user error, here's an plainest explanation of use I can think of:
Find a vocal part you want to tune. Make a cut on the file at the part before the singer starts singing and make a cut after he stops singing, so it is "isolated". Highlight the isolated region. Click the "Track Pitch" button in AutoTune, and then click the grey "Process" button that all AudioSuite plug-ins have. If your plug-in is working properly, you should now see red squiggly lines representing the pitches of the vocal part you are working on. Select AutoTune's pencil tool, and redraw the sour areas. Now, just like any other AudioSuite plug-in, you can then "Preview" the change, or when you like it, click the "Process" button.

doesn't autotune have an RTAS version?

Yes, but I'm pretty sure that you can only use the automatic adjust mode in RTAS... I tried using the graphical mode with RTAS for a while when I first bought it, and I don't think the plug-in is designed to remember where in the song you are playing it...meaning, if I moved the Pro Tools cursor to the middle of the song and pushed play, it would start tuning the vocals based on whatever notes had been drawn or sensed at the very start of the song. I don't know how better to explain it :hypno:

Interesting... I'm a little ignorant with VST & PT... Does PT have implementation issues with VST?

PT doesn't support any format other than RTAS/Audiosuite, but FXpansion makes a little utility that wraps VST plugins with RTAS code and puts them in the Pro Tools plugin folder (DAE/Plug-Ins).

Not all VSTs will wrap successfully, although some (Native Instruments) actually perform better as wrapped VSTs than they do as RTAS. The only VSTs I remember having problems wrapping were the BetaBugs stuff, but that was a few years ago on a PC.

The VST > RTAS Adapter v2.1 is for PT 7+, while v1.0 is for PT 6.9 and below.

They also make a VST > AU Adapter for Logic and DP users.

I primarily use RTAS plugins, but a couple that I like (like apTrigga for example) are VST only, so I use the Adapter and they work great.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. No native VST support? No wonder he's having problems.

Man, that really, really bites. Even Sonar offers VST support now, I believe... & they were against VST for years & years.

Pro Tools will never support VST directly, but I'm rather fond of the RTAS-only plugins I'm able to use, and all of the major plugins like URS, Waves, Sonalksis, etc. have RTAS versions. I could do without the wrapper completely if I didn't prefer apTrigga to Drumagog.
