I Have Discovered opeth

Yes they do....any one remember when they realized the greatness of opeth? for me was just alittle while ago. I kept reading about them and hearing good things..so i d/l some songs. One being the song blackwater park. after that i was hooked. Now im on my way to getting every single release. hehe. OPETH RULE!!!! \m/

Haven't been around in a while...

just was at the local music store - Borders... and they had Damnation as one of their albums to listen to. It was right out there with all their other pop music. very disheartening. i'm not one of these people who say just because something is popular means it sucks... i listen to all genres...

however, I used to like the fact that Opeth was obscure enough that not everyone heard of them.

i suppose it's a good thing for the band if they do become more popular. they have lived poor for way too long. however success is rarely a good thing. popularity often compromising quality. it's human nature to get lazy when things are going well...

Let's hope i'm wrong...

Welcome to the world of Opeth. don't mean to hijack the thread.

So what if Opeth have become an underground favorite..They deserve it..
Damnation is not a pop record by anyones standards and it isn't a trendy record either..
Perhaps one of the stores employees is /was an Opeth fan who wanted to highlight the release of Damnation..
Opeth are still underground and I doubt that the mainstream will catch up to them..It will be funny if the mainstream catches on to Opeth but it will be on Opeth's standards and I'm sure Opeth won't change for the mainstream..

No it wasn't a store employee...
It had a write up underneath it... it was done by their marketing/sales group (Borders is a pretty big chain)... Also I agree it's a not a pop album. However, some people, like Borders, could argue that point...

In addition, mainstream already has caught up with Opeth to some degree. Listen to their first three albums compared to the last three. Better studios, better equipment, better marketing, better production (some would argue this, I would), etc..

Sad but true, money = mainstream.
As a general rule - the more a band has, the less creative they become.
deathbearer - I used to think the same way as you... 15 years ago, I used to listen to a great band called Metallica. At the time, I thought it would be great if more people would listen to them (if they gained popularity)... well, I got my wish... enough said.

The Borders where I live, thier always playin' metal on the speakers in the store, and theres always metal up on display including Opeth. The actually real metal selection is great.

Opeth going mainstream? It'll never happen. Will they continue to get mroe popular? Of coarse!

Just because Metallica did, in no way means Opeth will do it. Thats nonsense.

BTW congrats and hails to the icedearth dude on his discovery!
