I just listen to "The sound of perseverence"...

Have you heard "Art Bleeds" by Gory Blister?

When I first heard that, I felt like I was hearing Chuck again. The vocals are killer.

Yes, I've played a couple of gigs with them, and they're really good - but I think they've been changing frontmans very often, so I don't know if the guy who sang on Art Bleeds is still there.

I speak only of The Huge.

So much effort...only for me ? Sorry I´m not perfect in speaking the english language..but I learn:)

Everything Bloodbath has done are my fav death metal cds, especially the new one, HOLY SHIT!!! I also like Hypocrisy's the Virus a lot, and I love every Decapitated cd equally, and also Necrophagist's epitaph is amazing, but I love TSOP, Symbolic, ITP, and Human all about equally, except I am partial to Symbolic and TSOP because they are really the first 2 death metal cds I ever heard.

Yup, those are all essential. How about some more obscure ones? I haven't really looked for obscure DM acts at all, perhaps because some of the obscure ones are cookie-cutter. I'm on the lookout for DM that is somewhat melodic (but not Gothenburgy) - hint: I love the melody in Necrophagist's Epitaph.

Blood Red Throne & Decapitated stand out. BRT is more of a thrashy sort of death, essentially more rhythmic than melodic. Decapitated kind of has the best of all worlds. It's just good music, period.

A couple of bands that I have discovered just recently really hit me hard, and they are The Monolith Deathcult and Toxocara(and I believe they both have the same guitarist). They are both obscure enough to not even be listed anywhere on wikipedia, where I usually can find most info I need about a band, but zero on either of those.

Since you ask for "obscure" ones (and like Necrophagist)...

...check out Obscura:

Some of the band members' names might sound familiar... ;)

Psycroptic and Decrepit Birth have nothing on Necrophagist, at least to me, they are both good but just don't possess that certain something Necrophagist has with their writing, and I also forgot about some Origin and Vital Remains(they both have their moments but then sometimes they are kind of boring). I like Coldworker's rotting paradise, which is a Swano production I believe, and also Hail of Bullets is growing on me, just still trying to get use to his style of vocals.

I never said they could hang with Mo. They are good though and homeboy wanted some more bands to kick it with.

They are good and I wasn't saying anything other than they aren't quite at Necrophagist's level of writing. I was just comparing them in my head, but they are definately top runners in the tech death genre.

I think Decapitated's 'Organic Hallucinosis' is my favourite death metal record of all time. That album started breaking down the boundaries between industrial/drone/ambient and death. They were seriously starting to hit some new heights I've never heard in metal, much less the death sub-genre.

TSOP is a strange one. There is some solid music on there, but the production is so STRANGE. It sounds so buzzy, boxy, dry and... loud.

dude Organic Hallucinosis is my favorite too!!!!!!!!! except for covans wierd vocal style! that production was awesome tooo.

Some of my favorite death metal records are:

Morbid Angel "Alters Of Madness", "Covenant"
Death "Symbolic"
Disincarnate "Dreams Of The Carrion Kind"
Carcass "Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious"
Exhumed "Anatomy Is Destiny"
Behemoth "Demigod"

I also like the new cd from The Facless "Planetary Duality"

Human is my favourite album by Death. I have every Death album, it was a very special band. Line up changed constantly, Chuck's vocals changed on every album, but it was always cool stuff that came out. Hah.. good old times.

@sorceron
Necroticism really is one of the best death metal records ever!

Spiritual Healing or Human would have to be my favorite Death albums, the songs are so catchy yet brutal.
Cannibal Corpse are without a doubt my absolute favourite band of all time though. Those guys are just savages on their instruments!
Carcass rule also, I prefer the older death metal bands to the newer breed but some new ones stand out like necrophagist, spawn of possession etc... the real techy death bands.

+1 to everyone who gave props to Symbolic, god what a great CD, so many awesome riffz/lixx!! (god I suck  ) I really couldn't get into Spiritual Healing, too old-school for my youngin' ears, and I haven't heard much off of Human - ITP and SoP stomp ass thoguh, but I do agree about Christy (I think it was Iekobird awhile ago who said his fills sound like throwing a drumset down a flight of stairs  )
