I made an SM7b and SM57 comparison video

With spoken word tests like these, you could probably say pretty much any widely used mic sounds "90% the same" unless it's something you ripped out of a five-buck walkie talkie. The differences become more apparent when they're used in the proper context, eg. stacked and used in a mix.

The good old 57 can handle vocals just fine, but it doesn't mean it's close enough to an SM7b to replace it.

And do SHURE really advertise it as a large diaphragm mic?

Nope, they don't.

For a couple of minutes I was thinking ¯\(°_o)/¯ where the hell are the guitars?

Great vid :)

They don't sound the same to me at all even on laptop speakers. The 57+foam sounds harsh and grainy with less low extension compared to the SM7 (and the 57 is also significantly lounder).
That's not to say the 57 isn't a good mic and the right choice for some vocalists but it certainly doesn't sound the same. OTOH, I have heard some 57 w/ transformer upgrades that sounded pretty close.
