My Dad decided I no longer have to pay back my tuition to him after my next payment. I just saved $7500

So now that I have no debt, what am I doing at 1am? G.A.S.ing the fuck out drooling and debating over what to buy, particularly which Mac Book Pro to get.

I just built a fecking Quad-core PC that runs great in November....but the new MBPs look soooo nice. Firewire 800 and SD slot this time around.

Debating whether to get the 13" 2.26Ghz, with 4GB of RAM for about $1519
or a 15" 2.4GHz w/2GB (late 2008 model) Refrubished for $1549.

The refurb can't be upgraded at all, and RAM for the new one has to be installed on order.

I wonder if the SD cards would be good enough to record to?

I would wait with the MBP.
I heard not that good things about this generation.
A lot of people call them semi-pro:)

At my collage the audio engineer bought one with the m-audio 2626 for mobile recording but the MBP firewire chip doesnt work together with the m-audio...

Also the new MBP are not that step up to mine (3.1 generation)
Besides they looking amazing:)

I hope the next generation will have blu-ray burner and a fix eSATA slot + firewire 800 and 400....

This november snow leopard will come out, so I would wait till the new MBP are build especially for the 64bit platform...

cheers

If you wanna buy a MBP, don't buy the new gen. I bought the last gen and I have no problem at all.
Moreover, the 2626 works with the fw400. Initially I used it like:
mbp -> fw800 -> lacie external -> 2626
But sometime I heard click and pops so I read in the m-audio forum that the best way to connect the 2626 is:
MBP -> fw400 -> 2626 -> lacie external

The problem is that the 2626 is a fw400 interface and that you can't share 2 different fw speed in the same bus. If you wanna use your disk with the fw800 you have to buy an express card. But at this point it's better to buy a eSata express card for the disk and to connect the 2626 to the fw400

FECK!
ARSE!
DRINK!
:)
Be a good son and pay him back.

He was just testing you.
 Definitely not the case, I've already paid back $21000

So the engineer did what exactly to troubleshoot it?

I think it's Sept snow leopard is coming, and it's only $13 to get it if you buy a mac after June 8-Dec 31.

Yeah I thought the Firewire speed thing was common knowledge. I'd of course get a good FW 800>400 cable to the Profire and run an external drive from the PF.

Install the 10.5.7 combo update, then install the Profire driver.

I'd be getting the 13"

Can you record 10 tracks for over an hour continuous without an external drive? The least amount of clutter and additional gear the better for a mobile rig.

When you guys first got your macs, you fapped to it didn't you

All the Macs currently available have been approved for compatibility by Digidesign. I haven't dug that deep but it seems like anyone that's having problems hasn't done the combo update or some other kind of user error.

I think you can buy the apple care when your original warranty are ending.
Anyway the first time I tried my MBP, I tracked one song and I had no problem (using the internal disk)

FECK ARSE DRINK was not just me quoting father ted, that was my SUGGESTION OF WHAT TO DO WITH THE MONEY :D

Another thought, is Apple Care worth paying for? extended warranties are usually bullshit scams, so I'd rather not spend the extra $350.

I think it is worth paying for. Just wait until the last week or so of you original 90 days with the product. This way you have a little time to gather more money if you didn't get it in the first place.

I am not sure how Apple's original warranty compares to other computer makers, but I would think that you would get at least a year warranty if you are dropping up to $3k on a computer. Just my opinion though.

ordered the 13" Macbook pro with 4GB RAM and the DVI adapter. I also got this skin from www.infectious.com The macs look good, but IMO this is better.
