Hi fellas! :D

Two weeks ago someone entered my flat (without breaking in...) and took my computer from my desk. Just my computer, not even the AC adapter or the money in my drawers or anything else. I have my own theories about it, but the point is I'm not getting a buck from the house insurance as there was no break-in...

I need a new computer NOW as I have a lot of job to do (two albums, three EPs...) until the end of this year. As I travel back and forth from Spain to Hungary and I need to be able to mix in both places whenever I travel I really need a laptop.

I've been looking through many sites but seems that the best stores I've seen only ship to US/Canada.
I'm talking about top notch laptop for around 2500USD max, that's about 1700€

So, does anyone in Europe know about a good store where I can order my custom laptop for a similar price? I got a deal in a laptop that had the following specs for 2400USD:

CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-950 3.06 GHz 8M Intel Smart Cache LGA1366
HDD1: 64 GB Kingston 2.5 inch SATA Gaming MLC Solid State Disk
HDD2: 500GB 7200RPM SATA300 Hard Drive
MEMORY: 12GB (4GBx3) DDR3-1333 SODIMM Triple-Channel Memory
MOTHERBOARD: Intel X58 Express Chipset Mainboard
VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M 1.5GB DDR5 VRAM Video
USB: Built-in 3x USB2.0 Ports + 2x USB3.0 Ports

That's what I'm looking for, unfortunately the store wouldn't ship it to Europe.

Or, does anyone outside EU know about a store that would ship to Spain or Hungary?

Would you get different features? I'm no PC expert but I have some knowledge, so maybe I did some big mistakes choosing the hardware...

Thanks for the help!!

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I loathe Apple, nor I can use my PC ampsim VST's, that's the only way I do guitars nowadays. Also, for the price of a MacBook Pro I could get much more power from a generic system, and also Windows 7 is now in the same league as Snow Leopard IMO (from what I could experience with my flatmate's Macbook Pro).

Cheers ;)

PS: Please I beg you: No PC vs Mac argument here, as I already said there's no chance I get a Mac these days.

That's a hell of a beasty laptop. Why don't you ask someone here you know well to be shipped the laptop, and then send it to you ? It would cost some extra dollars but if this computer is exactly what you need...

Ok since you wanna drop some serious cash on this I would either buy a Rain Livebook or go the Dell route. I went Dell and I don´t regret it.

First, Erik's mixes and especially tones sound fucking awesome, and unlike Joey's actually sound like real amps (that clip with Lecto and Greg's demo impulse, sweet Jesus :worship:)

Second...

Sorry I can't help, but how was it not a break-in? Did you leave your door unlocked? Or did the person have a key? Have you thought maybe they wanted specific data from your laptop? Just saying cause they didn't even take the power adapter

Still curious about the answer to this ;)

I'm not a hypocrite Jay, Erics not using presets, he's using legitimate tools that many people on this forum use and he uses them partly because its his workflow and partly because its what is affordable to him, I use the same tools, I have never not condoned them, I think they are usful although for me they have their limitations and I think that Eric produces good mixes, he makes good music and he puts effort into it, he's not trolling or criticising people and I have no bias towards him, he's just getting along on his own.

But thats not what the point was and still is; he didnt make this topic to discuss what you are trying to implicate him in, nowhere in this topic title or op is the word "presets" or "amp sims", sure he clarified in a later post that he wanted a specific type of system to use them and then you had to come in all guns blazing and blame him for all the ills of the world, intent to start a shitstorm like the class clown you are.

Seriously, if you care that much about gear go to gearslutz, thats what they're about there, it says it in the name.

This place has always been a the rational medium between the frequently malinformed (sevenstring.org) and the overly fanatical (gearslutz) and thats why I like it, not because we all think we have to have certain things to join some sort of sooper dooper club, but because most people here put what they've got to best use.

Just because you think you've gained a bit of local celebrity here recently doesnt mean you should have license to derail other peoples legitimate topics with your backseat clowning and no, I wont press the report thread button because I'm happy to let people continue to see how much of a tool you are being.

Öwen ... you are a very likeable guy. I make it to Scotland we gotta hang

Jay ... you really derailed this thread and if you're not careful Andy may come in all guns blazing about ill-use of his likeness ;)

Erik ... I'm not too good with making suggestions about laptops however Lesedna has the right idea ... just hook something up with someone here and have them ship it out to you if the one you were looking at is exactly what you want... I'm pretty sure many people here, myself included, would be happy to help how we could

If you had read any of my posts, ever, you'd never find the word "studio" on them. Nor I advertise myself as it. I DO have a good friend that has an ACTUAL studio, and THERE is where we record REAL DRUMS, DI's, vocals and stuff. I charge for (and make my living off) my mixing skills, and the bands come to me with few promotion by my side. They like what they hear and they don't give a fuck about the gear used as long as their record is going to kick ass.

I'll tell you why I work like this: Because I can't fucking spend a shitload of money on buying an actual studio (and my friend's is always available for me, and we divide 50% the earnings), nor I can reamp in my flat.
Sorry if it offends you, but if that's the case than it's your problem only. It's my way to pay the rent and I never had to give explanations till now. My father is retired and my mother is a maid, so how the fuck am I supposed to pay the 12000USD/year that Med school costs? I don't know, but if I can pay it by myself working as an "AE" why not? I think your clients and my clients are well separated by a fucking ocean, so no way I am causing you trouble -not even indirectly.

Last but not least, you'll never see me bragging about my own stuff, or asking for presets (jesus christ...).

The funny thing is I was just asking for advice to SPEND SERIOUS MONEY on a good WORKING TOOL, and as I don't want to fatten the pockets of Steve Jobs just to have a lower spec computer with a cute backlit apple on the back and that makes me to completely change my workflow.

Marcus: This is very strange, because technically there was no break-in, because all the doors were open with the proper keys. It was a Friday and I was going to have a trip to Budapest with a friend (it's about 170km away from this city) to have some experience of the Budapest night. I left my flat with the laptop on, sending the Dawn Of the Maya album to the label, locked every door and left. My flatmate was in the gym at that moment (he didn't come to BP).

Next day I arrived my flat and everything was perfectly on the place, doors locked, and my flatmate inside the flat. I entered my room and there was no laptop on the desk. I asked him about it, and he told me that he didn't know anything, nobody entered and his stuff was ok.

So, I think he went into my room, got my computer to check internet (his wireless card wasn't working that day), and accidently dropped it on the floor, or spilled coffee on top of it or any other shit happened and he didn't want to face it, so he got rid of it. Hell I even had money on the drawers (like 400€ in cash for rental) and some more change money on the desk, and nobody took it!

Anyways, I got my brother's laptop as a temporary replacement (same specs as my laptop), so I will be able to get working by tomorrow.

Cheers! ;)

If this theory is true then your flatmate is a huge retard, what a douche haha seriously

Jason, you're my buddy and you're a pretty cool and funny guy, I personally found the pic funny, but you really couldn't be more wrong. Not that we "like" Erik, but we know his work is top quality, he is more than many on this forum in the right to be called an Audio Engineer cause he actually WORKS as one, even for numerous label releases and has the reputation of being a 100% proffessional guy and has proven himself much more than he needs to on this forum with his awesome work, so whatever the fuck he calls a "studio" or an "AE" or an amp doesn't matter because he gets the job done and bands and labels are more than satisfied and so they keep calling him.

How many times must we say it's NOT about having super expensive gear, it's about the knowledge and experience you have with WHATEVER gear you have, and Erik undoubtedly has it, and he was not asking for advice on how to become a "real" engineer by getting a huge studio, because spending more does not get you better
