I need some depressing music.

I usually find quieter, mellow music to be depressing, like Nick Drake. I've heard a lot of "melancholy" sounding metal, but none of it I'd call depressing. Some newer anathema I find depressing, but the tracks that are I wouldn't call metal.

AAAAAAAAH for some truely depressing sounds I recommend Marillion.

All of the material with Fish singing and the first few albums with Hogarth on vocals.

I may suggest Clutching at Straws, Seasons End, Misplaced Childhood.

Also some Sarah MacLachlan.

Wow. Through this thread i have discovered that Candlemass and Marillion are depressing. haha
Anyway.. lets get serious.. GroundXero3k, you shouldnt have to listen to depressing music, but if you are so eager to do that, you must listen to THE most depressing band ever which is
JOY DIVISION
Download the song : "Decades"
and then buy their album "Closer"
and then feel the superbe feeling of catharsis they pass to the listener

Ok, #1) Dude. Skeleton Skeletron is frickin awesome. I was obsessed with that CD for a month a few years ago. Now I have to dig it out. :p

#2) I thought you didn't like your metal catchy. That album is catchy as fuck. Maybe its just not as metal either and that's where the line is drawn?

You are a strange and enigmatic person, Karen. :hypno:

Matt- no no - you got it all wrong.
I meant- I dont like my extreme metal music- to be too catchy.
hence the reason why I don't like progressive metal so much. it sounds too "happy " to me, (I like some progressive though... mostly old stuff- we talked about that)

Tiamat is catchy maybe, but its not "pop" its not "happy pappy solo guitars"
and a whole circuss on the grif.... I really can't stand those things anymore...
sorry matt :) Tiamat is doom goth metal, very heavy tunes, very dark... I love cds like that

and another thing matt: I love a lot of things... i have an open mind when it comes to music
so dont take one line I said over IRC "I dont like catchy Metal so much" and reflect if on my 4000 cds and my musical taste.
:tickled:

also: for November Doom: they have some catchy songs, and some dark songs-
but it takes time to "get into it" even if its catchy- its not "popy"
- once you do though, its like you discovered a whole new world. The Knowing, and To Welcome The Fade are what I would recomand Brett to check out!!!!
They Own Brett- you won't be sorry!

As long as you don't:
