okay so there i am in my room listening to Kiss The Blade, i walk outside to get some paper from downstairs and my mum just says ''you are not alone'' to me, i think what the fuck are you on about, so ask ''what are you on?'' and she says im singing that song, and she starts roughly humming ''The Future Of Speech''. i just laugh because shes humming it wrong, so i go get the album, and play the song, and tell my mum shes singing it all wrong, and show her the lyrics ''there are no lies...'' not ''you are not alone''... so then she starts singing along with the lyrics in her hand, but i have to sing too as she cant read the handwriting effect on the album, anyway she goes off and keeps coming back to sing the chorus, who of you can say your mum sings along to Katatonia?? (and shes about 40 too)

anyway just thought i'd say that...

yeah cool mum:)

A while ago my father picked me up(with the car) by a friends house and I was shocked to find out the he was listening to Dark tranquillity live in Gothenburg...He just said "great liveband"

My parents came up to the city for my graduation on the weekend and brightoffski and I showed my dad Opeth (Bleak), Dimmu Borgir (Fear and Wonder, Blessings Upon the Throne of Tyrrany) and Emperor (Al Svart and Ye Entracemperium).

It was cool. He's normally a Beatles and Simon and Garfunkle fan (aren't we all?) but he actually took it seriously and, if not liked, then at least appreciated the skill and style of the bands.

He especially commented on the production of 'Blackwater Park' which showed me he was paying attention!

So yeah, parents are great when they keep an open mind!

I'm always forcing my mum to listen to music i really like:D so when i put on Katatonia she knows after a few minutes that it's them and starts to look at the cd and the booklet.
I remember sitting in the car and driving away for holiday 3 years ago or something and we had Discouraged Ones playing in the car for over and over again, and since that she somehow likes the part "in my eyes in my eyes you're the lie" from relention and sometimes she just sings it along! She likes the song and the band too she said.
Well isn't that great?
Parents need to hear more metal!;)

My mom doesnt mind my music, every now and then shell say I like that song, ( she likes my dying bride), and my dad appreciates metal, he really likes Novembre,

P.S.- I Love My Mom ;) (Hope she gets better)

"Turn of that devil music. It's suicide music!, Stop Listening to that" and so on..............

my brother keeps saying 'its devil music...' blah blah blah, i get a headache from this constant nagging like a woman by him, oh well...

Your brother's a little bitch! Just kidding, but I bet it'd be annoying to hear that from someone who just doesn't understand.

When I showed Dad Opeth and Emperor I had to be careful about explaining it, cause the last time I showed him my music it was basically Motley Crue etc from my younger days... I had to tell him it was a bit different!

my father likes almost all bands with classical music on it or a female singer (who doesn't scream, but he doenst pay too much atenttion to that lately) too. Rhapsody, Lacrimosa, Dreams Of Sanity, etc. even a bit of Dimmu Borgir and Children Of Bodom.

and some bands from heavy and thrash too (Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, etc) and nü like System Of A Down. And metal bands from my country. He's 60.

but he dosn't dig into it, he listen to it when I put the cd. my mom too, but less.

the secret is repetition. constant playing of metal makes anybody likes something of metal. doesn't matter their age. they have to be a little open minded.

I'm just happy I could play Death in the living room sometimes as a teen-ager without my mum complaining. (..where the good stereo was).
That's good enough for me.
