I'll start the Ballad thread!!!

Hey whatever songs that you like that are very emotional... How's that? It can be blues to Rock N' Roll, to Iron Maiden of course....:)

i was just considering this.... there's alot of blues tunes i like but i wasn't sure if they fit in that catagory. the dictionary said basically if it's a narrative poem and also of romantic or sentimental value then it's a ballad. so would you consider fade to black a ballad? i would say it's sentimental and narrative - and it's got a killer solo \m/

I still wouldn't. It's got ballad parts in it, but to me a ballad is a song which is slow all the way through. I agree about the solo - it's amazing. Hands down, this is my favourite song of all time. :kickass: Anyway, going by that idea I could probably scratch A Tout Le Monde off my list since it's kinda the same sort of arrangement as Fade To Black.

Trying To Get The Feeling Again - Barry Manilow (almost any Manilow song)
Anything For You - Gloria Estefan
I Can't Make You Love Me - Bonnie Raitt
All the Scorpions ballads!!! Oh the memories!

OK, here's some off the top of my head......I guess the kinder, gentler side of Dweller :)

Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot
Beautiful - Gordon Lightfoot
Lucky Man - Emerson, Lake and Palmer
Castles made of Sand - Jimi Hendrix
Hurt - Johnny Cash
Province - TV on the Radio
Changes - Black Sabbath

Whoops can't forget these,

100 Days and Morning Glory Wine by Mark Lanegan.

Regarding X Japan, I wonder if they've done any sound tracks for Anime movies? They sound familiar.

Here you go, Yosmark! (Yoshiki) This is part one of 4 parts of "Art of Life" by X Japan for you to sample! :) Enjoy! :kickass: It's wild how the singer sounds like Steve Perry!

Take Me Up by WASP is really good!
Oh, and I don't know if it's a ballad but Laid to Rest by Sinergy is brilliant too.

Not for any in particular but their music gets used for that type of thing quite often so that could explain the similarities.

Spidey,

Speaking of Rainbow, I'll definitely put "Catch the Rainbow" on my list.

Linda,

Second on "Still Lovin' You"

Sara, Jaysun,and Jenna,

I'm going to kep my definittion of ballad to something that remains at least relatively slow throughout. If I included every song that made me feel emotional... well that would eb just about every song I like, although I create different emotions in myself depending on the song.

RIPDime05,

Second on "Fly To The Angels"

A start to my own ballad list:

Queen: "One Year of Love", "Too Much Love Will Kill You" and "Teo Torriate"
Bette Midler: "The Rose"
Steelheart: "She's Gone" and "I'll Never Let You Go"
Little River Band: "Cool Chnage"
Ian Hunter: "Irene Wilde" and "I Wish I Was You Mother"
Golden Earring: "Pourin' My Heart Out Again"

That's the kinda defination I think of when talking about ballads as well.
