I'm interviewing Mikael

Thanks for the suggestions.

As for the evil thing: Bloodbath.

Well, bloodbath isn't a serious band at all. It rules, but it's not like they take the whole gore metal thing seriously, i mean, this is a band of accomplished musicians playing old school metal that lyrically makes cannibal corpse seem like shakespeare.

As for me, I would most certainly like to know more about the forthcoming albums...Like...

Are Deliverance and Damnation connected by any means?
Now that Deliverance is finished...how do you feel about the final product?
How do you feel about the Deliverance's artwork compare to the others?
Did you like to work with Steven Wilson as much as in Blackwater Park?
Is Deliverance drives Opeth in some new era musically and lyrically speaking?
Do you expect the sells to be bigger than Blackwater Park?

Well that's about it!

True. It would be good to find out what you can about the new ones. I'm particularly interested in Damnation as it'll be something totally new for them. Maybe find out what instruments are being used that haven't been before, and how much steven wilson contributed. Also, I read in some interview that Mike and Steve might do some sort of collaborative project. It would be cool to find out what point in the process they are, like talking about it, writing material, or whatever, and also what type of music it can be expected to be if in fact it happens.

I want to know why they changed from a simultaneous release and now torture us with this 5 month gap.

Ask him whether or not the marketing for Damnation will be different, eg. will the label/whoever be actively marketing this album to progressive rockers? I've read in the past that Mikael felt that the band would do quite well in that circle, though some fans have trouble with the deathier vocals. This could help the band break there as well. Does Mikael look at Damnation's potential in this way?

Nice... that sounds like a good start.

Some ideas...

Perhaps a few questions regarding the writing processes of both these albums would be nice? When, where and how long did it take to write them both? Did Mikael write all the material himself?
How much like or different is this from Opeth's other material?
We've heard it's heavier/harder, does that mean more of the same type of layered sound structures that we heard on BWP?
How much acoustic guitar passages are there? Any strange or different instruments (violin) used on the all acoustic album? Does Michael do all the singing or does Steve Wilson help out on any tracks? Michael originally planned to do an acoustic album project outside of Opeth, with different musicians... what changed his mind? Is that something he still would consider doing in the future?

those were some really good questions i'd like to see in an interview..

I'm not dissapointed, or suprised that they did that, because the two cds at once would be kind of ...overwhelming.

I agree. Both at once wouldn't have bothered me a bit, but the gap'll keep anticipation high, and it might bring out more people to their shows on the tour if Opeth is still really fresh in their minds.

Ask him if he is playing a show in (or near) Los Angeles in the US where minors can get in. I'll be really pissed off if I can't go see them because I'm 15.

Now how the hell would he know that?

Well, I usually buy 3 or 4 new albums at once anyway, doesn't diminish any of them. I don't MIND, but.. you know. I'm just curious why they changed the plan.

@IanDork107:That never actually occured to me...

LOL:lol: well, I hope for the best for you, i know what it's like having to miss an opeth show for some stupid bullshit reason.

Let's see...McArthur Park is less than an hour from here...I have enough to buy a fake ID hopefully.

I'd really like to know more about Mikael's lyric writing process. It's a general consensus that his lyrics are some of the best, and most poetic in metal, yet he rarely talks about them.

How does he go about writing lyrics?

Does he have a concept for an album or song in mind before he starts writing, or does he just sit down and let his thoughts flow?

Is lyric writing a slow or fast process for him?

What, if any, are the lyrical themes of the two new albums?
