Every society has its own atrocities, but I don't see any Christians, Jews, or Hindus slicing off the clitoris of infant female children, hunting their own family members to retain their "honor" (their code of "honor" is fucking hilarious), wiping their asses with their bare hands, or the notion that killing indiscriminantly, no matter who gets caught in the fallout is somehow ok if it's all in the name of jihad.
You can make the argument that that's just one radical sect of this peaceful religion, which it is, but even the radical sects of other religions don't teach such aberrations of human behavior. One could throw out the Crusades argument and the perverted priests argument or the Spanish Inquisition if you want to but they don't hold any water, and this is why:
1. The Crusades and Inquisitions happened centuries ago and the atrocities committed in the name of religion were truly horrendous and a blight upon humanity...but that was when? CENTURIES AGO. Western culture has had a renaissance at least and has learned to adapt human behavior to changing times, so the comparison could be made between Christianity and Islam, but you know what? We don't live our lives like feeble-minded savages and can truly distinguish right from wrong without having to depend on someone else to tell us what to do based on some ancient text; not only that, but the ancient text that the religious nuts in Christianity constantly throw in people's faces doesn't warrant the killing of innocents for the promise of big tittied virgins in heaven. Deep inside people know what's right and what's wrong. I'm not saying that Muslim society is completely braindead, but the fact that there are people in that society who would even interpret such radical and extremist points of view and act on them in such a way speaks volumes about how little Islam has changed since the Middle Ages and even before. It's the fault of their religion as well as their extremists. Even idiot Christians don't follow The Bible word for word, and do you know why? The ability of critical thinking. Without that, everyone would be blind from cutting their eyes out for thinking someone else besides your wife is hot, without hands for the mere thought passing through your brain about taking something that doesn't belong to you, and we would be banned from eating seafood because it speaks about keeping away from shellfish. We, on the other hand, realize that back then people were idiots and had no sanitary way of keeping shellfish and would therefore get sick and die of food poisoning. The same thing with pork. Leave a slaughtered pig in the sun for a couple of hours and you'll get sick after you cook it and eat it. Rational thought. What a concept.
2. Perverted Priests. Again, they represent, just like the Muslim extremists, the extreme minority of the Catholic faith. But guess what? Nowhere in the Christian Bible is it written that it's ok to fuck little boys. This is a reflection of a disgusting human being, not a reflection of said religion or denomination. On the other hand, Muslim extremists spout jihad in the name of Islam because it's what they are taught. Again, this is the failure of an entire religion, not just the insane actions of a few following it. They are taught this...fortunately, there are many clear-thinking Muslims who realize there's a disconnect and one cannot take these things so literally.
3. Religion itself. Religion has nothing to do with the worship of one's deity. It's about the control of the masses. Man created religion and it looks like the guy who came up with the idea of Islam eons ago was a complete fucktard.
Do you know why priests are banned from marriage? It has absolutely nothing to do with God or purity. Centuries ago, Mother Church owned the land...it was God's country, literally. The church could not risk a priest or bishop or cardinal or pope getting married and having offspring who would inherit these lands that belonged to God. It was their way of once again controlling the masses and keeping everything for itself. The Vatican needed this system to stay in power and remain an absolute governing body and they couldn't risk losing power to a renegade heretic son who could rebel against the church.

. At least in this part of Italy. But the church could deal with an outside invading force...a massive uprising from within, however, they could not.
At least Christians and Jews don't stone women any more.
