The burka ban has been in effect for a long time already, seeing as the law that forbids the obscuring or hiding of one's face in public places has been written long ago - it just didn't specifically include burkas, so until now, muslems could say it was their religion to wear a burka and take advantage of the gray area in the law.

It's against the law to go around in a burka here because it conceals the face. Some people protested it in the beginning but the government effectively said if you wanna wear a burka in public, go back to your own country.

People consequently STFU after that and now only don the head scarves.
