Impressions about Agalloch - The Mantle

Anyone have any????
I heard one song by Pale Folklore ages ago and it sounded cool, but a cheap Opeth clone. How did they progress with The Mantle?

A cheap Opeth clone? Wow, you have the worst ear I have ever heard, are you one of those people that only listens to mp3's? Cheap Opeth clone, hahahaha, that is the worst description I have ever heard, ESPECIALLY for Agalloch. How they are actually similar, even a clone is pretty unrealistic. Agalloch is in a realm their own, and if you are able to say they are a "cheap Opeth clone" then you obviously only heard the music, didn't listen. To say that Agalloch is a must listen for any Opeth fan is the only connection I can find between the two. Sorry I can't expand, I am too busy being pissed off and boggled by your comment....

I love Agalloch, and I didnt like the vocals on Pale Folklore, even though I adore the album. I think on the Mantle, the vocals are great and they have matured into more interesting songwriters. I also love their song titles, and the arrangements on the mantle alot more, along with better production.

Agalloch's latest is cool, but only cool. I definitely prefer their previous LP much more. I find no reason to celebrate Agalloch's newest, intellectually, or respect it otherwise. But it's cool.

And... "Opeth Clone" = no such thing = nonsense. I disagree with the language on a fundamental level.

Like everyone who has posted before, I am baffled at the "cheap Opeth clone" statement. The two bands sounds absolutely nothing alike. Sengir Buendia, please come back when you have a more firm grasp on Agalloch's music

For the record, I prefer 'Pale Folklore' to 'The Mantle'

I think that's the tragedy of their newest. Once one completely digs their music - and I believe I have- the reality starts filling in. The music isn't that impressive. It's sparse. It relies on subtle dynamic changes and a slightly wider pallete of tone color, but nothing concrete exists to viscerally push the music and give it dimension. Nothing but a somewhat flakey vision salves it. In my mind, it's one of those albums best captured in the statement, "I like it but.."

saying something's beauty surpasses another's is an empty statement. beauty is one of those pseudo third-person concepts that cleanly translates to the first person "i like" or "i feel". it's fraudulent in that respect.

Especially because I see. The "in my opinion" would have to be taken as a ludicrous redundancy. When you say "A's beauty surpasses O's" you're pretending to say something about the objective character of a thing, as though "beauty" were an intrinsic property of that thing. The "in my opinion" is what makes the statement ridiculous.
