I've been experimenting with making impulses and I thought about trying to make impulses from cabinet simulators. I made an impulse of POD Farm's 1996 Brit v30 cabinet using the default power amp sim. Then I took a DI track and ran it through the Line 6 Insane amp once with POD Farm's cabinet simulator and once using the impulse I made with Boogex. Then I matched the volumes for the sake of AB testing. They sound really similar. They're distinguishable, but I can't tell which I like better (disregard the tone, it was just a bunch of default settings).

I promise, my next shootout will be way cooler!

Yeah, I was surprised how close it was. I think impulse technology is limited by the techniques used to make impulses, not the technology itself. This is one reason I haven't been too excited about Nebula.
