IN FLAMES Clayman Re-recorded 2020

I mean who even likes U2? Rhetorical question as I know they are pretty damn famous, but man, try naming a more boring band. Also, Bono is fucking punchable.
I don't like them. But I also don't like Linkin Park. And I don't even see them as a metal band

And saying that they're better because they're metal is a lame excuse.

It doesn't really matter what we think someone is, by definition LInkin Park is metal, or at least was for their first two records.

Really good performance of The Hive here from last year. Anders sounding incredible on vocals with his improved growling skills. "Dem growlz" as Krofius would say.

Compare to how Anders sounded in 2013 - he sounds a lot better now.

That's interesting. Because once, sometime ago, I read Jesper that Linkin Park was better than U2 because, at least LP was a metal band.

I was bored yesterday and went on their old website through the wayback machine. There are a dozen interviews saved. To keep it short - around the Colony/Clayman era: Anders listened to a lot of The Tea Party, and that's what party influenced Passenger. Bjorn was into Slipknot. Peter was into Tom Jones (???) and Jesper was into Backstreet Boys and a lot of other pop/rnb, because of the clean production and hooks.

Click "band", then "interviews".

And here's one quote from Bjorn's inteview when R2R came out:

Matt: In your past albums, you had Frederick Nordstrom record and produce your past albums..why the change?

Björn: Yeah we already on Clayman decided ,we wanted to do something different because we worked with Frederick with every recording we ever did we felt that he might not be able to do stuff that we needed to be done with this album, because this is a very diverse album it's hard to get it under the same package like sounding the same like other songs it's hard job, and we feel like we found the right person for the job for this one.

I'm watching their full Forcefest 2019 Mexico show now, and whilst Anders' growls are undoubtedly hugely improved... man, his attempts at cleans are worse than ever. It's like as he's become more confident in his growls he's become even less confident in his clean vocals. Quite often he just doesn't sing the clean parts at all, and when he does try he usually mixes it in with growls or just replaces all the cleans with growls instead.

Where the Dead Ships Dwell's chorus as one example is totally butchered vocally. Truthfully he's never been able to do that chorus live and never will be able to, but without any backing track it sounds really bad.

Because he cannot sing though he's desperately pretending that he can.

He should stop doing that because sometimes is embarrassing.

He should do what they used to do and pipe in backing vocals. It's lame but a better alternative than Anders attempting it without.

Anders actually sounds awful throughout the entire song, but 0:55...:rofl::rofl: WTF IS THAT

lol, to his credit, he got progressively better during the song, and the last chorus was pretty OK. first verse and chorus though... yikes

I have ripped on Anders in the past for using a prominent backing track to aid his clean vocals, but after seeing this performance I strongly recommend he goes back to doing that.

Speaking of older albums and cover songs, I think both the choice and the placement of "Everything Counts" was very good. Being the last Whoracle song with lyrics it summarizes very well what ultimately brought/will bring about the downfall of man: bottomless greed and the constant need for more.

Colony isn't necessarily the aftermath nor is it a "concept" album, it's more like an isolated episode from both the past and the future. That's what they said in the interview 20 years ago.

Ok, thanks for the correction.

What he should try, if he keeps on insisting on singing, due to his poor skills, is to choose simple melodies. Without much variation in the notes so that he has a lesser chance to fuck it up.

It's not like Burn is a complex chrous vocal melody to be fair :D it's pretty straightforward, so it's kind of amazing how badly they fucked it up. The American Bro's backing vocals sound like a 12 year old just starting to hit puberty, and Anders sounds like he's vomiting. The mixture is not good.

I just don't understand why he's trying to badly growl the chorus. I've seen enough IF performances to know Anders can do this live even if it doesn't sound great. That weird, shit sounding growl combined with American Bro's weak, silly sounding backing vocal is the worst combination possible. I was kind of bummed I missed out on seeing Burn live last year, but now I'm glad I didn't.

It has always baffled me how he used to be able to actually sing his clean parts live on the Sticky Fingers DVD and around that time, but pretty much as time has gone on he's sung less and less live. Nowadays he basically relies on the strength of his new growls, and I don't know if its a lack of confidence or damage to his voice but I feel if he opened up and actually sung more he would do himself a few favors
