Well, as some of you may know I have been looking at upgrading my interface, and originally I had a budget of £600-700 for a nice preamp and decent converters. Then I got wind of the Yamaha i88x, by all accounts a very underrated interface with a couple of really nice preamps (from the flagship DM2000 console) and RME level conversion. Loads of expansion possibilities too.

Bearing in mind that it's original retail was close to £900 (check the pic) I managed to find a B-stock demo model (just some rack-rash) at Chappell's in London. It was my lucky day as it had been reduced to.........£50!!

I seriously can't believe that I paid less for this than for my Presonus Inspire. I've already played some of my old tracks through it and damn it sounds sooo clear. Can't wait to record some new stuff. Time to spend my leftover cash on some new mics.... Sorry for the gratuitous post, but I'm so stoked and I needed to share!

Nice score James! I've seriously never heard of Yamaha making an interface, but the price is absolutely unreal, and if it's a good interface too, then so much the better! How many analog and digital inputs does it have?

It has ADAT I/O, S/PDIF, 8 analog ins and 8 outs. I read up about it on G*******z before I bit the bullet and it was universally praised for its sound quality. The only problems it had were driver related, but seeing as this was back in 05, the newest drivers are really solid (loaded up in Reaper fine).

FWIW if anybody is interested in one, they are still a real sleeper bargain on eBay. Maybe not quite as cheap(!) but they regularly change hands for around £300.
