I've recently been informed of this skill. I don't quite have it down yet but I got lucky a few times and sounded low as fuck and quite demonic. I was wondering if anyone out there had any bands I should check out that dabble or even specialize in this sound.

Tanks.

I believe excommunion (from Colorado Springs, CO) utilize this method of vocals. You can get thier cd "superion" from Amazon... I'm sure there's a bunch of more well-known bands that do that too... but I know for sure Excommunion did it.

now i am not really sure im im doing it right cause iv never even hear any1 use this before, but it kinda sounds like a demon shreiking right? cause that is the kinda sound im getting. And i can only do it high pitched.

i always end up coughing after i do this, will this stop if i just kept practicing?

If you cough then you are using too much of your throat. You have to figure out how to draw the air in from your guts. Imagine that you were in a room full of poison gas and were on your last breath before you found an oxygen tank. Now just how big of a breath do you think you would take? Focus that amount inward while drawing it steadily across your vocal chords. Use as little air as possible but use maximum force. It's really hard to explain from there on how to go apeshit with just a fraction of a breath. I suggest trying excercises where you try to breathe in as slow as possible and see how long you can get at drawing in a breath. Try inhaling for 10 seconds uninterrupted, then 20, and then 30 if you can without trying to growl. That should get you used to inhaling. Then after you got that down, add a bit of your throat and if you screech then you need to relax your throat while applying the same pressure if that makes any sense. Eventually your throat will loosen up and you will get used to it. Granted, when you do it your head feels like imploding but hey, I feel like I need an Advil after each song I sing live normally so that is no biggie!

Hope that helps.

The bands I showed make it sound like a pig snorting

That helped alot man thx...

My band is like a mix between thrash metal and death metal, i feel if i can get down some badass growls i can take us further into death metal, which me and the bassist want, even though the other guitarist and drummer want to stay more thrash, ah fuck them lol.

Thx again man.

I absolutly suck at growling, but that sounded really cool when I tried it. Thanks dude :headbang:

Well I am a girl and if I try any sort of growling I sound like a monkey on acid. It's terrible. I'd really like to be able to "growl", but it's just impossible.

Girls doing Death Metal vocals isn't something that really impresses me or gets me into the music. There's a few girls that do Black Metal vocals well, maybe try some of those.

Also you could learn how to sing and do things for Gothic Metal or even Power Metal, try not to sound too generic though, a lot of female singers seem to fall into this trap.

BTW, I think I got this technique down quite well, practiced it a little here and there throughout the past few days. When I woke up this morning though, I think I might've been bleeding from the throat and swallowing the blood when I was sleeping, though there was none on the pillow. I don't think I'll keep trying for this as I didn't feel any agitation in my throat while doing it.
