Hey James

Unfortunately I'm also great at making coffee and running to shops.

I like working with just myself and the bands, I find anyone else around gets to be a distraction so...sorry.

I may do what Micheal Wagener has been doing at his place and do a workshop type thing in the future but things are a bit busy at the moment.

Is that at the White Swallow just over the bay bridge??? Just kidding. Y'know I've never found that many rockin places in SF, it's not like the UK, everyone tends to stay more in the local bars in the suburbs, but that may just be a case of not knowing the city that well. Back over there mid July, let me know if the course is still running.

haha...funny...

Yeah we usually hang out in the east bay and suburbs, but then every once in a while it's nice to raid those touristy clubs in S.F. and kick everyone in the ass if you know what I mean...There are a few good ones though, I'll let you know.

By the way, the course includes "How to drink ugly girls pretty" and "How to drink fat girls thin," but does not in any way cover "How to drink enough so that guys start looking good" nor any field trips to places called the White Swallow.

Actually I found Seattle far gayer than SF, even had rainbow flags outside the church!!.
You don't have beer strong enough to get drunk over there do you??
You should include "vomiting through one's nostrils" to your course assignment

hahahaha priceless, other points and assignments to be included during inbibing internship-

1) how to work for about 30 mins straight on compression settings wondering why the changes are not that drastic and then finally enjoying your hard work(all while bypass is on)

2) how to throw and aim beer bottles/lighters/shoes/etc at drummers complaining about triggering and snare samples with maximum accuracy.

3) how to get much better recorded sounds from shit amps that you hate while getting nothing but mud from boutique amps.

4) and finally how to become better at taking breaks and pretending to fix things in the sound room that aren't actually broken (this relates to number 2 and general band question avoidance in general) :p

Why do you need an intership with Andy? You got him right here. You'll learn more by asking him questions here than you ever will working with him on an album (time is limited and expensive). It'd be interesting, but not as cool as you'd think it'd be cuz he probably be telling you to shut it the whole time :) (joking, but possibly not?). Just start recording your own shit and then ask him q's here why it aint sounding like it should. This is the best intership you can have right here. Anyone can untangle cords and get coffee. You don't learn anything doing that other than which starbucks is the closest to the studio. Of course a workshop that I could attend would be the the shizzle just so I could meet em, but it's not necessary seeing as he's right here answering just about any question you have about recording.

yeah good points man-

I mean ultimately you just have to figure it out yourself just like Andy has, but there is still a lot to be said for a pro taking a look at what you do and *showing* you how you might make it better/adding suggestions.

Also when your around people who know their stuff you sometimes just kinda learn by being there.

myeh dreams are free I quess :erk:

I disagree with FrostGiant. You'll learn the answer to your questions here, but in my experience (not just with recording) you learn things you wouldn't even think to ask about just by watching a real pro at work. Little dumb shit ranging from what order he does things in to how he deals with the musicians. There is tons to be gained by working for a pro tht doesn't fall into the "Recording Tips" category that most of threads in this forum relate to (not that I don't love the forum).

Not to mention that if you get coffee for enough guys you'll generally gain resposibilties, meet people and get your own gigs.
