I hate to say it but I haven't bought their newest album. I was kind of disappointed with Antics, thought it isn't a such a bad second album, but I haven't fully regained my 'trust' about them.
[hangs head in shame]
Antics was amazing. Our Love To Admire was a huge, utter let down, though it was not horrible. They have even said it was not the album they hoped it would be. Carlos needs to filter in the whole classical element a bit better this time around. As for "Wrecking Ball", the end of it is brilliant. Turn On the Bright Lights is my all time favorite album ever, seconded by Antics coming close. Amazing band in every way.
Turn On the Bright Lights is the only album of theirs I've heard and I'll guess just from the comments in this thread that the rest of their material is great too.
I do have to thank Alter for turning me onto them. Being the complete asshole that I am, I DLed "TotBL" not long after I joined this site & I really dug it when I first started listening to it. I DLed the other two albums shortly after, but they've just sat in a folder on my PC. Hopefully I will go in & check them out sometime this week.
I know this is an old thread, but I only recently gave this band a listen, and holy shit they're great.
They sound a lot like Joy Division at times, but I love it. Obstacle 1 has to be one of my favourite songs ever now. Nothing else they put out really compares to Turn on the Bright Lights imo.
I'd like them more if they didn't sound like a cheap smoothie created from Joy Division and The Chameleons. Also, I find most of their lyrics stupid and cringe-worthy.
I think they're alright but I agree on the lyrics being l0ls. I can't really stand most bands lyrics and it's never something I really pay much attention to, if they're delivered in a way I like that's all that matters to me.
