INTO ETERNITY........

To date, I haven't been inspired to spend enough time with this disc to get a good read on it. The one or two songs I've heard were pretty solid. That said, I'm fairly tired of harsh vocal verses and clean vocal choruses.

I agree with you in that this new album is a little more formulaic. It never really goes out there into death metal territory, at least not as much as the last one.

I guess it is a little more straightforward and less eclectic comparing it to the last one.

I'm simply tired of harsh vocals, period. I've never understood the attraction of them, and there are a number of otherwise-excellent bands or CDs that I either haven't bought (Into Eternity and Opeth being two) or don't listen to often (Death Machine and Wolverine being two) purely because of the harsh vocals.

What I've heard of IE was AMAZING...but there's enough harsh vocals that I don't know if I can get past them to enjoy the music itself, so I haven't bought any of their discs yet. Similarly, I love the music on the Death Machine CD....I think it's some of the best stuff the Tipton brothers have written, but I don't listen to it very often because of the harsh vocals.

So, I have a simple request of vocalists: Sing or shut up.

Seriously? Not sure if you're being serious or sarcastic. Assuming you're being serious, I'm sick of them because I think this style has a short shelf-life. The harsh verse/clean chorus style is inherently formulaic, and consequently, grows old quickly. I don't suspect a single CD that uses this style will end up in my Top 20 of 2006.

Yes, seriously. Just curious as to why you felt the way you did. I don't happen to share the same opinion of the harsh/clean mix, but I do understand where you're coming from and how one could easily grow sick and tired of it. I am pretty much sick and tired of females vocalists who can only sing in operatic style, and I'd love that trend to die a cruel death. So yeah I guess if enough bands keep doing the same thing over and over, regardless of talent level, it can just get stagnant.

I agree with you for most part, but I REALLY LIKE when a singer has more to his or her pallette where they mostly sing BUT ALSO CAN do other things with their voice to keep it interesting and mix it up a bit. I like the gritty stuff only when its balanced by MOST singing..which is what I think a singer is supposed to be doing mostly.

I LOVE Into Eternity, Epica, and Nightwish who have that kind of balance...Though I agree that sometimes though there is too much harshness. Everything else is so harsh, it needs to have balance I think.

Wait, weren't you giving me crap at Gigantour over Opeth?

Explain...
