Into Night's Requiem Infernal

hmm ive played my still life vinyl about 10 times or so during the the couple of years ive had it. its started to get a slight hiss and the occasional pop every now and then, also the quality is hardly noticeable but i think its a great addition to any music collection. just not a practical one for listening over and over and retaining the standard.

bad needle?

I'm very disappointed that none of our albums have been pressed on vinyl yet, I am not afraid to say. Hopefully TER will decide we're worth pressing onto vinyl someday. I do realise the costs of pressing vinyl can be prohibitive. We'll see what happens.

As for the quality of recent vinyl releases, I'm sure there's varying factors in why it might degrade faster. If certain companies use cheaper vinyl then no doubt it won't last as long. As for audio quality, I have a bunch of the older Opeth releases on vinyl too, and I admit that sonically they don't sound too great. I've discussed this with people in the industry who have some knowledge on the matter (like Neil Kernon, for example) and the conclusion I've come to is that these albums simply weren't mixed and mastered properly for attaining maximum audio quality on vinyl. I think it holds true in the reverse too......so many old albums from the 1970s I still feel sound better on vinyl than their cd counterparts. Could it be because those old albums were mixed with the intention of being heard on vinyl? I think so.

That's strange. It seems like TER has faith in vinyl for their other bands anyway. Even when we were on the label for our last album, a vinyl edition wasn't even argued - it simply was part of the release schedule. You should knock that door down. As far as I'm concerned, it ain't real until it's on the blessed wax...

Argh I want some Agalloch vinyl so bad but I don't want to have to pay like 350 dollars for one on ebay.

p.s.

DON'T order any wax from Southern Lord! I have three of their albums and all of them skipped like mad straight out of the package! It's ridiculous!

My other band, These Are They was scheduled to get a vinyl release of the EP coming out, and after a meeting with The End, we were told that the sales number in 2008 for all their vinyl was extremely poor, and hardly sold last year, so they changed it to CD only. I'm not sure if it has to do with economic times, and it's just easier to D/L right now... I do know, I will attempt to talk them into a vinyl release of the new ND CD for sure.

That's funny because a guy I know who owns a record store told me that the sales for vinyl went up greatly during '08 and are predicted to go up even more in '09...

At this stage of the game, if I can buy a new release on vinyl, and have the badass artwork and everything large-sized (as it ought to be), then I'll buy that format. If I want to listen to a cd of it, or put it on my mp3 player, I'll rip it onto the computer. You can get a decent USB compatable turntable for a hundred bucks or so now. I don't mind still buying cds, but even then I'm getting to the point where I'd rather buy the cd and then immediately rip it so that I don't have to cart the actual cd around. I have also started to notice alot of my older cds starting to degrade. Especially old Warner Bros. and Vertigo releases on cd (Alice Cooper, Thin Lizzy, etc.) I have noticed that the cds have degraded badly from years of playing. But some of my 30+ year old vinyl still sounds pretty damn good!

Well if you really desperately need Agalloch vinyl... give me bit to sift through my 7"s. I'm pretty sure there's a spare Tomorrow Will Never Come in there. However, it looks my playable copy of the 10" walked off with a friend who disappeared so it's entirely possible the only 7" is the custom numbered one JWW gave me for helping out ELS a bit.
Anyhow format preference often depends on the individual recording. I prefer my CD of Death's Individual Thought Patterns but my vinyl edition of Teatament's The Legacy. My guess on that is the less-loved versions are both "hey let's throw this on here without any real consideration of the strengths/weaknesses of the format" reissues. The Death is super lightweight vinyl and sounded scratchy the day I popped the wrap 5 years ago. The Legacy CD *might* have gotten a token remastering back in '88 before joining Atlantic's Budget Title line but doesn't exactly capitalize on the strengths of the format.

My SL stuff plays fine. I dunno...maybe it's your needle (?).

I've noticed a huge drop in prices on eGay for Agalloch vinyls. Maybe it's the economy. I might have some copies of The Mantle on vinyl in a box in my closet that I might dig out to sell sometime. I could throw some human finger bones or something in the package to make it more worthwhile for you, heh (it's funny because you probably think I'm joking)...

I actually wasn't... I was thinking "Wow, that would be so cool!" I collect skulls and bones but I have no human parts. Only castings.

This doesnt count as far as body parts, does it????

Wow Geetus... You are unreal.

OK guys, here's the story. The Geetus is the bass player for These Are They. He's a Vet technician, so the joke started saying all he does is rub cat balls all day. His nick name turned into "Cat Balls". After weeks of abuse from us, he arrived with a present for me. It's not cat balls, but those of a dog. That picture is what he handed me.

On my MySpace page in the comments, there's a video of the moment.

Bull Testicles??? hmmmm
Was assisting in a procedure the other day, and the same doctor I was assisting when I procured those; before we closed up and disposed with the "articles", asked me if I would like something. I am not sure what to think....
There has to be a way to top that.....:)

Nah Haughm. I didn't think you were kidding. Figured some of those ultra-vocal Agalloch fans tracked down a reviewer who used the word "OPETH" in regards to your music and sent you some trophies.
