Is there anything new out there in the metal world?

 Wintersun!

Or actually, anything Jari touches - Ensiferum's first two records were good too, especially "Iron" since it had Flemming with his magic on it, but Ensiferum are rather screwed since Jari left, their latest EP was a big letdown.
Back to Wintersun - I can't believe this band has such a relatively small fanbase with other IMO semi-mediocre bands (ie GuitarWorld's-favorite-finns) being hailed as the ultimate axe wizards! Wintersun embrace such diverse elements and blend them together exceptionally well - they're like Malmsteen's "Rising force" :notworthy vs Nasum :notworthy vs Ultravox! Or Judas' "Painkiller" vs Emperor's "In the nightside eclipse", I guess the person who invented the term "power death" got it pretty accurate, although they seem very much on the grind side of things (makes sense having Kai Hahto on drums) drumwise!
Saw them live in July, getting to see them again in 2 weeks, new record postponed to summer 2007 though!

Anyway, check 'em out if you haven't yet!

Man, I can't recommend those two bands enough, Wintersun blows me away every time I listen to them, and Ensiferum kicked major ass as well. Jari is a fucking god. He played everything bar drums on that album, and wrote all the songs as well. And he can shred as well, I mean listen to the Winter Madness solo's on the Wintersun album, or the solo on Token Of Time by Ensiferum, and the Beyond The Dark Sun rhythm is a bitch to play. That said, I can't really think of any bands who are doing anything different/fresh really, unless you wanna start going into Viking Metal and the such (Turisas, Korpiklaani, Battlelore, etc.) But again that's hardly new, rather a contrast to most metal bands.

Hi rokkerzzzzzzzz!!!

Check out "Diablo Swing Orchestra" at http://www.myspace.com/diabloswingorchestra

It´s my fave production so far this year. I enginereed/produced it - took 7 weeks to record - 2 weeks to mix. Helluva a job. A couple of songs had more than 140 channels!!!! A lot of stuff going on in the background of the songs.
The style is a mixture of "system of a down" + swing +metal + opera.
Have a listen - if ya dare!!!!

Right now I´m mixing a band (after 4 weeks recording)that combines metal with folkmusic from Sweden .A lot of violins and strange instruments in the mix - will let ya know when it´s finished.

Stay Metal!!!

Finally got "Threat Signal" in the mail today! Real fuckin baddass album! It was produced/engineered by Christian from Fear Factory! I new there was a FF influence on the tracks that I previously heard, and this explains why!
Definately check them out!:kickass:

Yeah, when I talked to them at the concert they were glad things worked out that way, apparently that's what got Christian into producing other albums (like the next Mnemic, if I remember right, coming out February 2nd according to their new vocalist at the same concert) and he did a great job with them.

Oooooh, I'm just two songs into Pitch Black Progress...so I haven't fully formed my opinion, but I can say they they sort of remind me of Natural Born Chaos-era Soilwork. The singer's clean voice reminds me of older Dark Tranquillity clean vocals.

I really, really don't like the vocal hooks/choruses...a bit cheesy. :OMG: The heavier vocals are OK, sort of reminded me of Nile or Dying Fetus when he tried to push it too deep, a bit too much gurgling.

Anywho, my early opinion. Looks like I'm flying in the face of the general opinion of this band on here. Don't hate me too much, lol!

Stringy: I thought the same thing at first but then it just grows on you like a bad fungus. Now I fukkin' love 'em! The singer is just awesome, as is the rest of the band, but he just really stands out to my ears.

For all you people who like Scar Symmetry, check out Alvestam's other band UNMOORED, http://www.unmoored.com in particular the last album 'Indefinite Soul Extension' (Code 666 Records). It's an absolute stormer of an album. In a similar vein to Scar Symmetry, but a lot heavier. Also recorded at Studio Abyss by Tommy Tagtgren, so you know it's going to sound incredible

I have a bag with a "Pain of mind" patch sewn on it, from 15 years ago. How are you going to sell Neurosis as a new band my good man? They must've been around for 20 years at least!
Hehe. True. But still a great band. "through silver in blood" is an overlooked piece of art.
Then again, I don't know if the term metal applies here.
They are also the most intense hypnotic dramatic live act I've ever seen in my life.
