Isa

I'm way behind on my Enslaved listening. The only thing I've heard is "Below the Lights," so now is the time to send me your Enslaved albums everyone.

That new DVD looks *awesome* - in the band's own words, this one is "done right," unlike their last release (which I also thought kicked ass).

As for "Isa," I haven't heard it even once yet, I guess I need to get it, since I loved "Below the Lights."

Yeah, what I'm saying is that just because you liked BtL doesn't mean you'll automatically like Isa. It's another progressive step for Enslaved and quite a big 'un at that. I might revisit it one day but these days I pine for Vikingligr or Eld.

I don't like BM when it becomes "proggy" anymore. (or I just need to take a long break from new Enslaved, Arcturus, latter day Emperor, Solefald, Age of Silence, Emancer, etc and those types of bands/music).

With that said, Below the Lights stands out just because it is so dark and atmospheric, and all those mellotrons and basslines just add so much depth. I don't hear that with Isa, but I know most people around here jizz over anything Enslaved related. :loco:

Based on your posts of late, that's the exact impression I was getting as well. Hey, it's all a matter of current taste right? I still have a great appetite for practically all things Black Metal related these days - whether it be progressive, traditional, pagan/viking or the aggressive melodic/thrashy style. If any of those styles are performed well, I'm intersted in checking 'em out.

I just became progged-out, that's all. There's no doubting I still regard those albums highly, but I'm just on hiatus. It's not like I'd get rid of the CDs or anything, one day for sure I'll check out Arcturus and Solefald again.

For that reason, I've avoided the new Arcturus and Solefald (well that and the fact that they've been massacred in reviews).

Each time I spin whichever Enslaved album I keep being struck by how good it is. The problem is that Enslaved somehow belong to these bands I almost never feel like listening to. "Monumension" and "Frost" are the ones who leave the shelves once or twice a month, the others are sadly gathering dust.

Ok, I gotcha now. All I basically meant was that SINCE I really enjoyed the direction they went w/ BTL, that I figured I'd continue enjoying that "sound" on Isa as they explored it further.

Then again, I pretty much like/love most everything Enslaved has done/will do. :p

To threadjack a bit...Ali, did you read in the new Terrorizer that Solefald's new album is kind of more stripped down and simple? Sounds like they went full circle and back to basics. Yes? No?

Fanboi alert. Actually, you like Dire Straits too so you should like Isa. :loco:

Glanced through it just because the 6/10 score prevented me from perusing. I can't be dealing with 6/10 albums these days....I'm still going through outstanding 2005 promos. :tickled:

About the new Arcturus: I'm pretty sure Terrorozer gave it a 9 or 9.5/10 if I remember correctly. Most reviews I've read of it are positive (not that that means anything). It's certainly no LMI, but definitely better than most things Hestnaes has sung on.

Oh, and the couple of tracks I've heard from the new Solefald were pretty gnarly. I'll definitely be picking it up if I ever come across it in a store.

I'm quite a fanboy for Simen's vox, but they really do nothing for me on this album.. then again the music could be to blame for somewhat putting me off.. Overall the album is better than average, and I do like it more than the last Arcturus, but it really puts me to sleep (not always a bad thing ;P )

I thought everything about this album was pretty bad on the first listen, from the vocals to the music.. but it quickly grew on me. It's an enjoyable listen, but unfortunately overall it doesn't feel that special or worth listening to more than a few times, unlike their past releases I've heard.
