Ishann's Peccatum

Well I hear its a mix of classical music and traditional metal but I'd like some opinions on it.

Personally, I think Peccatum sucks. I like Emperor a lot, and I like female fronted Metal bands like the Gathering, Lacuna Coil and some Arch Enemy, so I thought I'd check it out. Horribly pompous shit that is just not pleasing to my ear. I can handle a bit of pretentiousness (sometimes ya just gotta create a vibe), but not that shit. Not at all. But thats just my opinion,

I know people that like the band. I cant understand why they would, but I digress.

I saw them live opening for Emperor 3 years ago and they fucking sucked!
she screamed like a witch or something and it was fucking annoying

I have "Strangling From Within". While it's not nearly good as Emperor it has a different feel to them so it's not really fair to compare to two. Maybe that's the issue a lot of people have with them...the expectation that there would be strong similarities to Emperor. So when it's discovered that they have their own unique sound it's disappointing to some. I find them interesting for just that reason. They utilize different techniques and styles, including classical, and have intelligent lyrics. The production is a bit thin, whether that's on purpose or not I'm not sure but that detracts a bit in my opinion. A decent album though. They have a newer album out, which I haven't acquired yet but I'm looking forward to hearing it.

Star of Ash is much better. Ihsahn's wife wears the pants in that band and he just plays guitar and bass. Much more tolorable.

seriously i think that no one ever think that peccatum is an ihnshan creature in the same way Prometeus was...

i think that peccatum is quite similar to emperor's mellow parts...

i enjoy ihsahn work...

after the second song everyone was pissed at her because she kept fucking up the guitar parts

I saw them open for Emperor also. I thought their stage show was pretty cool (mostly the male vocalist) and debated buying the CD. My friend played it for me....not nearly the same feel. I thought it was boring. Still do.

If you go in thinking "OHH Emperor Side project" you will greatly be dissapointed. You gotta have an open mind when you hear Peccatum. Its more of an artful type of black metal. I personally like their last release "Amor Fati" best, its a bit harder edged. Again... if you go in thinking its "Emperor like" you will be dissapointed.
