Linux still have a lot to get better at... but there is much potential there

The only reason it's not as efficient is because it's not meant for multitasking or the same stuff that Mac and Windows are made for. It's a program made strictly for programming and stuff. I have fun with it quite a bit when I don't feel like putting up with Windows.
