In this thread recommend good foreign films.

A couple days ago I took it upon myself to watch one of the movies Lurched recommended in the movie thread. "The Return" sets the stage for 2 adolescent boys meeting their father for the first time since he abandoned them in toddlerdom. The younger of which is filled with resentment, while the older seeks favor from his long lost papa. Anyhow they go out on a fishing trip, things go awry, feelings get hurt, tears get shed.

Good stuff! I also currently have "Downfall" in my possession, but am in the need for more quality recommendations of movies made outside of this damned nation.

The Wages of Fear, French, 1952.

It's pretty much Deliverance but with trucks and EXPLODING LIQUID NITROGEN instead of pigfucking. Also it was made before Deliverance and has one of the most beautiful wimmenz I've ever seen as the main dude's love interest. Awesome story, awesome scenerey, INCREDIBLE character development, and just fun fun fun.

Another good Bellucci film is Malena, Italian from a few years ago.

Starts off pretty goofy about some adolescent kids trying to score, then ends up being very dark and gets into some WWII bullshit, becoming quite amazing. Oh, and it has some titties.

i used to watch a lot of foreign films on tv but i don't really remember many of them, except the danish movie about a WEIRD MAGIC hotel and the french one where these kids kill their teacher for being a holocaust denier. cool stuff

I remember watching this hilarious movie in french class about these knights who go forward in time for some reason and since it was french class we didn't have subtitles, and so I could never figure out why. It was some comedy starring Jean Reno. Years later they remade it in English I think.

Incredible movie.. very influenced by Tarkovsky (aka Stalker's director)

Thanks IOF. But blockcluster doesn't have "Stalker". 8 1/2 has been added to the queue though. Also, what do you know about the film "Andrei Rublev"?

That it is the HEAVIEST film i ever saw. Not only its 4 hours long, but it is also really slow (slower than other Tarkovsky films i've seen)..still it has some unbelievable visuals, cinematography..and is (as usual) full of symbolisms.
