Some of you on Facebook might know about my battle with raccoons that inhabited and crapped all over & destroyed my attic. Pix aplenty! Well, last night, the Raccoon scat party took place with my trapper, a home remodeler, and an insurance adjuster. To say I was apprehensive would be an understatement. I was 0 for 2 with home claims getting settled (a microburst that took out my shed, and damaged my fence, as well as 25 minutes of golfball sized hail in seperate incidents) I knew this one was going to be a big deal, but not as big as it seems to have ended up.
The contractor dude was ready to puke after about 4 minutes up in the attic. Good thing it wasn't hot out, as being up there when its warm is like drinking a glass of sand, as you feel your throat close up, and you get a bad dry cough. He said there was no way to "spot" clean this. What they found was worse than I suspected. There is literally crap from one corner to the next, and all points in between. There are pee spots that have soaked into my plaster (NEVER buy a home with plaster walls & ceilings!!) and crap under, around, and rolled into the insulation. There are chewed wires, damaged ductwork, and probably more stuff they will find as they begin to repair this.
The insurance adjuster gave me no hassles on getting this stuff fixed (so far) It will be about a week long job that will involve spraying bleach, or another insecticide to kill fleas on the surface, and mold that was growing out of the turds like hair. The insulation will be removed & bagged, and then disposed of, all through the tiny access hatch that I barely fit through. Then, all the bare wood will receive a second clean/disinfect treatment before damage is repaired, and new insulation is installed. All totalled, the repairs are going to be between $4500-$5000. I will be out of the house during the bleaching treatments, and forced to board my cats, and live in a hotel for a few days. I've been told that my attic may be the new poster child for raccoon damage. Yay me! :zombie: I'm just happy that for ONCE, it appears that I will not be getting screwed by an insurance company.
Raccoons suck, it's no wonder Uncle Nugent shoots them when he sees them. If Rocky & family come back, he will be shot on sight...
Filled a couple clips for the Ruger 10/22 with Omark/CCI Stingers. I still wish I would have caught one of them in the bucket trap...
