jaykeely. . .

whats even funnier is how he was bitching about melodic death being totaly boring and derivative now but loves the new AE, the most boring and derivative melodic death album ive heard so far this year. (ive admitadley pretty much only heard the ones from the "big boys" in the scene, but they're supposed to be the ones who lead into new territory right?)

What? I thought you had shot yourself?

Well, actually I was complaining about the fact that people whine about power metal being derivative but melodic death seems to escape that level of criticism, when it is probably even more plagiarisitic. :ill:

Regarding Arch Enemy, they've been around the block. If they're derivative, then they're only derivative of themselves. That counts for a lot in my book. They're not Carnal Forge, Omnium Gatherum, Mors Principium Est, or Skyfire. Fuck it, I just don't have the energy to argue it anymore. Some of you will hate AE because they've sold out (their attitude doesn't affect their music), some of you will hate them because they replaced Livva with a woman (get over it, this is 2003), and some of you will just hate them because you've never liked them from the get go. Whatever. :loco:

At the end of the day, I'll continue to listen to what I think sounds good - not what others would think is cool, so your opinion is not going to change mine - you should move on to the Children of Bodom forum. Your kin await you.

But before you leave, remind me of how I'm living in the past whilst I put on some early Rainbow.

NP: sounds of the university library
My first year of college Cal-Trans (state run construction/engineering company) was retrofitting earthquake equipment to the foundation of the library, I'll bet it doesn't sound like that! :tickled:

yeh. AoR is a watered down version of WoS. it has the same problems that hatecrew death roll and figure number five and reroute to remain all have: theyre just a boring version of what they've already done. a total plagerism of themselves, but they didnt steal the good stuff. and i didnt say SETI was the greatest album of the decade, hell i like animatronic better anyway, but i still dig SETI quite a bit. kovenant is just so cool to hate, you all cant resist.

Hmm. You're mostly right but is RTR really? It certainly is DIFFERENT to my ears at least.

I must credit you guys for your fantastically open minds...round here I shoot people who do not understand that RJD is one of the greatest singers who ever lived

I agree...I think RTR and to a lesser extent AOR typifies a band searching for a new direction without having any real idea what they're pursuing, or being caught between mainstream aspirations and retaining past credibility, which usually results in confused songwriting. Most of the other albums mentioned are indeed regression of past ideas, especially Soilwork.
