I recommend Lorenna McKennitt(kind of new age), Bjork's ''Vespertine'', and Bel Canto if you want something relaxing.
Mckennit is ok IMO but kinda pop, and I wouldn't take Bjork seriously after after that incident with the reporter

Right now listening to jazz-tinted rock band Karate, not sure if that counts. Solid band.

Want a kickass instrumental album, yesterday was listening to Uakti - Aguas de Amazonia. A Brazilian percussion group playing an album of Philip Glass songs. Extremely chill sound with some Amazon-style darkness. If you're downloading check out the song "Japura River".

A good bunch of artist include the following... (=P)

Charles Mingus, Tricky, DJ Shadow, John Coltrane, Rufus Reid, Wayne Shorter, Hank Mobley, UNKLE, Modern Jazz Quartet, McCoy Tyner, Gordian Knot and ummm... Deerhoof?

Al Di Meola is a great jazz fusion musician. Check out the albums Elegant Gypsy and Casino. Aphex Twin makes some pretty interesting music. Check out the album Drukqs. Michael Manring is an amazing bassist with some cool albums like Thonk and Soliloquoy. And for some funk/jazz/rock, really cool stuff, check out the band Chucklehead. It's fucking sweet, but it's pretty hard to find. The album Big Wet Kiss is awesome.

i liked his collaborations with clarke, but I havnt ventured so far as to looking into his own stuff. looks like i will be doing that now though, thanks for the reccomendations

Other albums by Aphex Twin are much better than Drukqs I think, esp. Come to Daddy, Richard D James album and Selected Ambient Works.
The 11 Analord recordings (under the name AFX) are interesting in parts, but James' use of old analogue equipment gets tiring after a while. It's best to pick up only a couple of these only (no.1, no.4 and no.10 maybe).

Al Di Meola is fantastic. He leaves his mark on any album he plays in. I just came across an old tape of mine, Aziza Mustafa Zadeh's Dance of Fire, today and put it on for a while. I had forgotten how good Al Di Meola and everyone else performs on this album.

Yes.....Tricky. That guy is actually back in mix, playing shows n' stuff after disappearing for a long time as far as I know.

Always thought the album "Juxtapose" was very good if too strange for most people.

So I guess you are saying she is better than Emperor (Nor)???

Btw, that comment about my mom was low, even for you!

yes. bjork is better than emperor. not that id ever even think of comparing the two, as both are exceptional in their respective contexts and places. Regardless, i said "just about any" not "every" band you listen to dumb dumb.

edit: when did i talk about your mom? is everyone on here bat-shit loco? or did i miss a memo about free LSD for every noob for use during conversation/arguments?

Just winding you up  , (offtopic) but you must admit you did say something about ironbeard's wife, he didn't make that up.

C'mon Metal_Wrath, Bjork's music is powerful, mystical, moving, and soundtrack-ish, she fucking owns...and Loreena being pop? i don't think so...

I've never really heard Bjork so I don't have any opinion on her other than that footage with the reporter. As for Loreena Mckenitt, Listen to "The Last Unicorn", that is pop imo.

some of the best jazz you will hear will be in local jazz clubs. unless you live in a city that is a crap factory for music.
