Jethro Tull

About time you kicked in....

Metalheads that dont get Tull seem to be adrift to me. They dont fully understand the rootes of metal.

It would seem foolish to speak of Anderson as a great vocalist but for some reason he fits the bill for me. I suppose because he's unique and actually uses the scales quite nicely, rarely monotone, always moving with a great sense of melody, uniquely his.

Ha, I bet. At least Kiuas got it somewhat correct, right?

Still, no one can beat Barriemore Barlow's drumming. That guy was awesome. I think I actually like him better than Clive Bunker.

Hey Thoth, you know that Tull does some interesting renditions of Bach? Ian Anderson is very influenced by classical music.

I don't know if you're into Bach, but I know you like classical music.

Here's a video of Tull performing Hunting Girl:

...and here's a cover of Kiuas doing the song. Far from Tull's version, but cool nonetheless:

Thats not a bad job of the song, the vocals are weaker but it always good to see a metal band that knows and respects evolution.

Maiden did

my old band played Mary, more like Tull but with a bit more palm mute chug.

Heres what Iommi did the summer before the forming of Sabbath, gotta admit they still had a strange twist on the blues back then, hard to call it "blues" really

this is one of the few over played radio songs that can still pump me up. We had alot of important music back then but this song was a breath of fresh air, hard driven riff, report and answer vocal/guitar typically great flute solo. Heres an interesting twist

I thought I'd love this band from all the things I heard about them, then a friend burned me a CD with some of their music, I was very disappointed.

"The poet and the painter casting shadows on the water..." It's one of the most impressive passages in rock, I believe, both lyrically and musically.

Fully agreed. Also one of my favourite passages that I ever heard, gives me goosebumps every time :worship:
I love Thick As A Brick, A Passion Play and Songs From The Woods, but actually these are the only ones I own.
Need to get Aqualung, Heavy Horses, Ministrel In The Gallery and Stormwatch soon :erk:

Aside from being an awesome album, Minstrel in the Gallery has one of the coolest album covers ever.

Figure I'll post it here, since it's on topic:
