Hey guys.

Does anyone here work at Guitar Center?

If so,

How'd you get the job, and what should I do to get the job?

I'm going down to my local Guitar Center this week to apply.
For the last 2.5 years, I've been working at a Web Design firm, and I just recently quit to pursue my passion in audio.

Any advice?

you just fucked up dude

a job at GC isn't a job in audio, it's a job in mass-merchant retail hell

welcome to $7/hr, no benefits or vacation, and having to deal with a bunch of incompetent coworkers/bosses and asshole customers

i would take the web design route 10 times out of 10

Sounds like one is better off interning as an unpaid coffee bitch at a local studio. At least there is a potential future in it.

But yeah, working at a music store isn't exactly a career in audio.

I'm just looking for a job for the time being while I establish myself. Nothing fancy.

Haha.

Mannn you guys are making me look stupid. :P

Maybe I didn't make myself clear.
I'm not looking for a long-term job with Guitar Center. I'm just looking for a job to pay the bills while I hone my AE skills, and/or find something else that suits me better.

no bullshit dude, GC probably won't even pay the bills

you ever worked retail before??

Why not just keep your current job and work with bands on weekends then?

Because I already quit. Haha.

Working at the firm was too involved, anyways.
I would work all day, and then work nights, and then work weekends, just to meet deadlines.

I was getting nickled and dimed out of my money, so I just assumed find something else.

They still do outsource some Flash work to me though.

However, working there did not give me enough time to record or practice.

Half the time, I was surfing this forum at work, anyways. :P

Since you already have a skill I would try to get some part time work doing that. It will certainly pay better. Best luck, however audio is a pretty dangerous career choice.

where is this company located?

i'll gladly take your place.

No, I haven't.

It's no desire of mine, either. But I need to be doing something. Right now, I'm 19 and unemployed, and ready to start my life.

I thought I had it figured out with Web Design, but once I discovered Audio Engineering, it was like "love at first sight".

Haha. I would literally sit at work and day dream about gear, recording, music, etc.

I could easily see myself working with Audio for the rest of my life.

Any advice on what to do, fellas?

I've been over it a couple times, and I'm kind of stuck. I'm NOWHERE near established enough, experienced, or skilled enough to make a living off recording, so I need something to do that gives me some free time to record, while still raking in a little bit of cash flow.

Any ideas?

Well the best choice to make would be to get a degree in something that can pay well and keep you comfortable for your entire life if music doesnt work out. It's not something you want to jump into if you are just honing your skills right now...
