Ever since it was announced that metal icons Judas Priest would be unleashing their 17th studio album overall, 'Redeemer of Souls' (on July 8, 2014), their legion of fans have been wondering if the band would be launching a supporting tour. And the answer is a resounding YES - Priest will be touring the US in the fall, with dates running throughout October and for most of November. Steel Panther will be "special guests" for all the dates.

Already, 'Redeemer of Souls' is creating a deafening pre-release buzz, largely due to overwhelmingly positive reviews:

"The word 'epic' is thrown around too often in the world of music, but Judas Priest's new album 'Redeemer of Souls' is, in fact, truly epic. From Rob Halford's powerful vocals to Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner's monster riffs and soaring guitar solos, 'Redeemer of Souls' takes listeners on a fantastical metal journey from beginning to end." --Loudwire

"Galloping riffs, dueling solos and Rob Halford's battle shrieks make it classic Priest at its metal core." --Rolling Stone Magazine [review of "Redeemer of Souls" single]

"The gods of metal return with all cylinders firing on 'Redeemer of Souls,' a juggernaut of an album that features raw, unleashed power as only the mighty Priest can deliver. Valhalla, they are coming — and coming HARD." --Mike Mettler, Sound & Vision Magazine

Comprised of Rob Halford (vocals), Glenn Tipton (guitar), Richie Faulkner (guitar), Ian Hill (bass), and Scott Travis (drums), Judas Priest is responsible for some of heavy metal's all-time classic songs ("Living After Midnight," "Breaking the Law," "You've Got Another Thing Coming," etc.) and albums ('British Steel,' 'Screaming for Vengeance,' 'Painkiller,' etc.).

And come the fall, the mighty Priest will be ferociously rocking the US once more - with more dates to follow shortly.

Steel Panther will surely be cool, but Volbeat would have been awesome.
Also hoping for a date in Quebec City and/or Montreal.

Pity Accept are in Europe at that time. Sad to say but Bon Jovi was probably the best opening act Priest had on the tours I've seen. Anthrax & Testament were ok but that DJ, fake Lizzy and 30 min Zakk wank solo were all :puke:

Then you've missed some great Priest opening acts, because I've seen them out with Alice Cooper, Dio, Motorhead, Whitesnake, Metal Church and others. Seems like they always have good opening acts.

I sure did. But Voivod were decent.

1986: Bon Jovi in Ottawa
2005: Anthrax in Calgary but there wasn't an opening act in Japan.
2008: Testament in Vancouver, Serj Tankian, Hatebreed, Cavalera Conspiracy, Shadows Fall, Voivod, Testament, 3 Inches of Blood etc at Monsters of Rock in Calgary & no opening band in Vegas.
2011: Fake Lizzy etc in Toronto.

Its funny on some social media sites people saying why would Priest pick Panther to open up. So many probably have no clue that Satchel (Russ Parish), and Rob Halford are good friends, and played together on one of Rob's FIGHT albums.

I really wish bands like Priest and Maiden would use their opening slot to pass the torch and help ensure that older fans get turned on to the next generation of Metal bands. It would be wonderful to see this slot go to a band like Iced Earth, Brainstorm, Primal Fear, etc.; bands who have paid their dues. As John points out, Rob has a personal relationship with SP and I get that. However, the fan in me can't help but wish Priest would have done what's good for the longevity of the genre.
