Are You Morbid?
Nice album. I didn't know anything about November's Doom and I saw this in the local metal record store. It was priced well, so I took a chance. Good stuff.

Can anyone shed light on what directions the sound goes in prior to and afterward? I noticed that the band members change a lot, so I was wondering how this affected the sounds.

ND started as a very straightforward doom/death band... slow chuggy riffs with deep growls. Excellent doom. This is mainly seen on the first album. After the album ND eventually are getting less doomy and a bit faster, and more unique and harder to categorize, and totally awesome! now go buy all the albums

Every album we've released has it's own unique identity to it, while still maintaining a common musical thread throughout. "Of Sculptured Ivy..." came out six years ago, and is generally very slow and doomy overall. We've branched out and progressed some since then, not only due to new members coming into the band but just because over time we've all grown as musicians and writers, and our tastes and interests have broadened alot. The best thing to do would be to go to our website, www.novembersdoom.com, and check out the mp3s available on there, to get an idea of what some of the material on our last couple of albums has sounded like. Hope you like what you find.

Yeah really, six fucking years! I joined ND almost exactly 6 years ago now, I think it was around late Feb./early March that I first came out and jammed with these knuckleheads. I loved "Of Sculptured Ivy.." alot at the time, and next to "The Pale Haunt Departure", it's probably our most consistent album from beginning to end.

"Forever With Unopened Eye" as well as "With Rue And Fire" are both my favorite songs on that album and they both still regularly appear in our live sets.

"The Jealous Sun" and "With Rue and Fire" are my other favorites from that album. Man, I can still remember listening to those tracks on a Saturday night after having our band practice, getting ready to listen to my friend's metal radio show with the guys, drinking Dew and eating pizza, and bitching about how much high school sucks, lol! Good times.

That's great man. I love when a piece of music can bring back memories. I have a few that REALLY stand out. I remember listening to Paradise Lost's Gothic everyday on my drive to college, in the winter semester. I had a drive through a long road of forest area, and when it would snow, it looked amazing. So that CD, now brings me to that snow covered area everytime I hear it.

Queens of the stone age is like that for me too, only it's a summer memory.

'For Every Leaf That Falls' is still my favorite ND song, but its just not the same without CJ (or me and Jimmy) singing backup when its played live, hehe.
I'll never forget the time ND played at this shithole bar in Lyons, and we started doing the "ooooooh ooooh's". The ridiculous smile on Paul's face was priceless.

I agree Paul, most definitely. Type O Negative and Moonspell stand out the most for me. October Rust and World Coming Down brings out the best memories I still have, as does Wolfheart. At times, Carnivore brings back memories too, but mostly of times when the guys and I were being mischievous, lol. Male Supremacy, baby!! :D

I have so many songs and albums that I have strong memory associations with, I wouldn't even know where to begin talking about them. I did however listen to Metal Church "The Dark" cd recently...I hadn't heard it in a long time, and instantly had many vivid flashbacks to when I first bought that album and many memories and times associated with listening to that album all the time back then.

I also have one strong memory associated to an ND album....being in a van, driving to Cincinatti back in May 1995 to play a gig with Incantation with my Dead Serenade bandmates (which included none other than our current bassist Brian Whited), and having to hear the "Amid Its Hallowed Mirth" cd over, and over and over and over again, because the knuckleheads only brought two cds to listen to for the entire trip..... the Hammer Smashed Face EP, which lasts all of about twelve minutes, and the "Amid..." cd. That was rough, lol.

I'm sure i'll catch a fair amount of shit for this butttt...

The new Slipknot album came out right as high school was ending, so I have really great memories of Graduating/The beginning of last summer. I love it.

Other than that, the only other album is Opeth's Damnation, I remember the first time I heard it was in Autumn, it was raining out and I was sick. Not a great memory, but I remember hearing this completely polar opposite Opeth album and it was just cool.

and for my ND related one, for some reason, the first time I heard stuff from them was when I was driving to Stop and Shop (supermarket incase anyone doesnt know)...so ND = Grocery store? :D

Hopefully more will be added to this list over the next few years.

Hey, that Zero the Hero cover on the EP was great! That was another thing that brings back memories, of going to a certain musical instrument store in the area.

Fuck what anyone has to say...I really like Slipknot, I think they're very good at what they do, and they write songs that are catchy and memorable while still being "heavy". Plus they put on a great show. Ultimately, you have good memories associated with that album...regardless of what anyone thinks about Slipknot or anything else you enjoy, it meant something to you and will forever have some meaningful association in your mind, and that's great....isn't that what enjoying music should be all about? :headbang:

Totally what it's about. Luckily everyone on here is good about not bashing peoples musical tastes. Which is always a nice change. I've seen Slipknot 5 (soon to be 6) times, and they always put on a pretty good show (some have been better than others, but none of them have sucked).

On this note, I'm really excited about the Pale Haunt Departure. I just have a feeling its going to kick ass and will be associated with something. Probably our first gig since i'm gonna rock the To Welcome The Fade shirt. :headbang:
