...and on an overall, I'm not impressed. The rythym section is definatly better, the vocals I'm undecided about and the guitar work is saddening. It all seems like an overly simplified version of Black Water Park, it doesn't suck me in and fill me with emotion like all the other albums and the sound is kind of thin compared to the rich, thick Still Life and BWP. I dunno, I guess its ok...but I am definatly disappointed. It also seems alot more repetitive and boring then the others...I have high hopes for Damnation, I pray that its better

Well, don't be too critical, otherwise you won't be able to enjoy Opeth, overall as a band.

As for Deliverance, I love it, IMO, Opeth will never disappoint me. As for the musical composition, it definitely is more depressing, which makes me feel like that when ever I listen. :) Is that a good thing or bad thing?

It seems to have a lot more dissonant and flat riffing in it, so the melodies carry the listener less than other albums. But there's still a lot of parts that pull you along with them. And whoever said it wasn't beautiful (I noticed a few saying it before I'd heard it) must have been listening to something else.

I think that if you dismiss the cynics (just like I did with RTR.... yeah, thats a bad pun) and go into an album with a positive attitude, you will tend to like things a lot more, and in turn you will be happier.... just look at me! I KNEW I was going to like Deliverance, and I completely dismissed every bad points I had heard about it before I heard it.... and I think it is awesome.... I have no complaints. Everyone should try the "I'm gonna like this" attitude.... you'll end up liking things a lot more, but it doesn't mean you HAVE to try and like something if you really don't like it. I wish everyone can be as happy as I am when it comes to the music I listen to....

I will definatly be listening to it more...its good at what it is...but its not what I was expecting or wanting to hear.

Ozzman from the Metallica boards I presume.

Like someone has mentioned, give it a few listens before dismissing it, right now I think it's Opeth's third best behind Morningrise and Still Life.

I first listened to the album with absolutely no pre concieved notions, just high hopes. Needless to say I was dissapointed. I dont like the album, but I do think its a good album, just not up to par with past Opeth releases. Btw, I recieved my copy yesterday, and Ive listened to it like 3 or 4 times since then, I LIKE it, but if I wanna hear Opeth Ill put on Still Life. When I am in the Bloodtreepeth mood, I put on Deliverance..hehe

Maybe I came off a bit harsh...Its definatly a great album that will be spun quite a bit more, I just don't find it is as good as the previous Opeth releases.

I love Deliverance more with every listen. I got it last Thursday and have listened to it several times each day.

It wasn't what I expected though, especially A Fair Judgement turned out completely different (which made me disappointed on the first listen of this track).
But I have learned to take everything on this album as it is, and I find alot of beauty and emotion on this album.

I still don't want to compare it to the other albums... maybe in a month or so.

I had an indifferent reaction on my first listen, but I like it the more I hear it. It's not in your face at all, which is why people seem to be disregarding it. It's not their heaviest either... that still belongs to MAYH. But Opeth is going in a different direction, and it's even darker than it was before, actually. It took me tons of listens to get into MAYH, and now it's one of my favorites. I think the dissappointed, for most, will go away with more listens just because they'll see that a different direction doesn't necessarily mean a bad direction.

I love the album. I felt the way you did after my first couple times hearing it, but now I really love it. It is completely different than what I was expecting, which is why I think it took so long to get into. But once I put myself in the mood the music created for me, I realized its JUST as good as any other Opeth album, just in a different way.

Well...I haven't heard the whole album yet. But I heard Wreath on the radio the other day, and it blew me away. Although it didn't have any obvious hooks, or wasn't moronically catchy, for lack of a better term, I could certainly see that you would need to dissect the song to truly apprecite it...and thats what I loved about it. Left me screaming for more. That is what I'm truly looking forward to, a mental challenge, where I get to explore every subtle nuance of the album. Should be a truly rewarding experience.

Ive only heard a couple songs and they havent sunk in yet. I know I most likely will not fall in love with it on the first couple listens. I did not like Morningrise at first. I thought it was boring and lenghty.

I cant wait until Tuesday when I buy the full version and hear all the other songs.

The I remember the first time I heard Opeth it had a strange quality that I couldn't quite put my finger on... I was compelled to listen to it because it was so different and every time I listened I learned to love it more. That's the same feeling I get when I listen to DELIVERANCE. I fucking love the way that Opeth has released an album that sounds different but sticks to the same core elements. I'm glad I that we didn't get another Blackwater Park.

Listen with an open mind. Try smoking weed.
