Just whipped out Damage Done

Still have to get that album, especially if it is as good as I hear it is! So far, my collection is limited to Projector, Character, and Fiction. Sadley I spend too much money on concerts to actually buy all the cd's I want.

To be honest, its the one DT album that pulls me back to a specific place and time as well. I won't go into the details, as they're so lovingly preserved in the old 'fucked up relationships'
... Took the words out of my mouth. September 2002 is when I first bought Damage Done. The Beginning of Autumn. This album always takes me back to that place every Autumn. The smell in the air, the lighting, the breeze. Everything. Brings back fond memories of Autumn 2003 too, with a beautiful relationship on the bloom, and Autumn 2005 which that said beauty went up in flames. I've shared many memories with this album, and it still takes me back everytime. Especially now that it's fall again.

Musically, this is definitely one of my favourite DT releases. Everything fits so well and compliments every little detail. From the fast pace of The Final Resistance, to the manic vocals of Cathode Ray Sunshine, to the dark and beautiful closer, Ex Nihilo.

Perfection, from every aspect.

Character was the first album I heard by DT. I had never heard of them when they opened for Opeth early last year. But I was attracted to their live energy (especially with mikael accidentally stepping on my ex-girlfriends arm, and screaming/spitting in our faces), despite the poor sound quality. How could you not buy an album after that??

I also find that funny, because I really like Haven. The style sounds more sophisticated than on Projector and there are some great songs in there (The Wonders at Your Feet, Not Built to Last, Haven, Indifferent Suns), but my only complaint is about variety. All the songs have pretty much the same structure and for me that's a bit of a turn off at times; so I actually think the songwriting in Projector is better. But that doesn't make Haven a bad album by any means.

Edit: Oh yeah, and Projector was the first DT I heard... what is it? 8 years already? Damn. I'm not sure that has anything to do with it being my favorite.

Maybe I will sit down and Haven a good listen. If most of you like it that much then I'm obviously missing something.

Well, not necessarily, but do it anyway. I couldnt really appreciate the simplicity of the songs on this album at first, but then their beauty somehow struck me. For example, Fabric is a simple, almost discreet song, yet in my opinion its one of the best songs ever. What I really like about this album is that the band focused more on the atmosphere of the songs and on the songs as such, and not so much on being metal. Haven and Projector have a certain strange aura about them, and thats why they are quite special.

I just bought Damage Done about two weeks ago and it's definitely the worst DT album so far (I have Gallery, Projector, Character, Fiction... all amazing albums). Almost everything in Damage seems formulaic and bland, sort of like a bad Character. The production wasn't all that great either. I really, really love the track The Enemy though. Great song. Some songs are better than others but none really stuck out to me and the supposed stand out tracks of Final Resistance and Monochromatic Stains were both very, very mediocre by DT's standards.

I don't know, this one just didn't do it for me. Is Haven comparable to this?

I can't believe someone would find Character superior to Damage Done. It's a mad mad world. ;)

Ha, and I can't believe the opposite, man.

Character was my first DT album, so I guess it has a special place in my heart.

Absolutely not. It couldnt be more different than DD.

It is definitely one of the least mentioned albums in their fandom. Although my faves are probably the Gallery/Skydancer this is definitely a close 3rd. I like Hours in Exile and Monochromatic stains the most off this album, but all the songs are good.

Alright, I've gotta say, this album has been growing on me a lot. It's still my least favorite of DT I have but definitely a worthy addition.

This was the album that not only got me into Dark Tranquillity, but got me into melodic death metal, and was one of the final albums that pulled me completely away from the "Slipknot/Korn" thing. (Quiet, you. I was 14.) It is by far my favourite, and not for that reason.

This will probably get me nailed, but whats all this Slipknot/Korn thing? Ive never really understood all that bashing. It was really cool to read an interview with Bob Vigna where he said he liked Korn and the new Linkin Park. He just listens to whatever he likes and doesnt have a problem saying it. Although he admitted that trve Immo fans will probably think he is crazy. This doesnt mean that I like those bands (I like Slipknots Iowa, and some Korn), its just I dont get all that lets-bash-Slipknot/Korn trend.

A chance to start an offtopic discussion. :p
I never got into Korn, I just don't like their music. I haven't listened to Slipknot for a while but some of their music is pretty good. The problem is that many people who bash0r Slipknot think they are a horrible band because their fanbase consists of "unproper, teenage, white trash, pseudo metalheads". That may be partly true (well, I overexaggerated a little bit) but they still should be judged by their music.

The first "unofficial" Slipknot album is pretty good, it ranges from funky to jazzy breaks, more complex and less "metal" parts and I think it's got a better singer

I don't really care much about most of what Slipknot has done, but some of their stuff is pretty decent. I just don't like their pseudorebellious attitude.

About the bashing... It seemed OK to me some ten years ago when I was a teenager getting into metal. But eventually I grew up (I think).

Man, my favorite DT album changes all the time... it used Damage Done for quite a while, but right now I'm stuck in my Haven phase.

Sadly, I just CANNOT get into Projector. I despise Stanne's clean vocals. It's a shame, cuz I like the mood of some of the songs...
