Kemper Profiling Amp

Yea I'm adjusting the Master Volume. I ran a cable from a main out to my monitors, then from the monitor out to the monitors. The monitor out was WAY louder than the single main out. Guessing because it's a L+R sum of the two? I'll check into it more tomorrow at the studio. Just figured I'd check and see if anyone else had issues with low levels.

And what I meant was, are you recording a stereo signal from the Kemper, or just one side of the main outs? If I'm recording a distorted rhythm track I only need a mono. You could just take one side, but you can also change the main out signal to be a mono out in the output section. (which should sum to mono any stereo effects) I can only see a few very rare circumstances when I'd want to record a guitar in stereo.... Rotary and stereo delay being in there. Otherwise wouldn't you just set it to mono and run one cable?

I got a pretty killer Krankenstein tone using my Schecter Loomis and TS9. If you have a Loomis and TS9 and want to try it out then PM your email address to me. I'm curious to see if others have the same success with it. I tried it with a different guitar and it sounded like shit.

I would love to know this as well.

I would assume you have to record the DI out through a regular analog input, but through SPDIF would be amazing.

You just go into the output section. Page 1, turn the spidf knob to select what you want it to put out. Gtr/Mod would give you the dry signal + everything up until the delay and reverb. It's all in the manual!

So I messed with it more in the studio. It's definitely coming in at a really low level. I set up the kemper, ran two trs cables from Main Outs to my rosetta ins 1&2 (no mic pre, line in)

In Pro Tools the level PEAKED at -22dBFS. RMS is more like -26 or -28. Wtf. Master volume was all the way up. Channel volume was at a good level, so as not to clip the output. I tried a ton of different profiles, triple checked my settings. All the same.

It seems like it should just come in with 10dB more signal.....

Also tried recording the direct signal. In the manual it says setting the direct out to Gtr Studio should give a higher signal and negate the need for a di box. It also peaked around -22dBFS.

I don't think the Rosetta has any settings for input sensitivity. Plus I routed a test signal out of PT and back in, and it came back at exactly the same level. So it shouldn't be the converters.

Why are my levels 10dB below where they should be? I shouldn't have to crank the faders up or put trim plugs in....

+1 It's all in the manual. The full pdf user manual must be downloaded from the kemper homepage, here.

I highly recommend to read the inofficial wiKPA pdf document that's often updated and filled with good tips from the kemper forum.

So after scouring the Kemper forums the last two days I think I found an answer. I've been using the 1/4" jacks, and apparently they're unbalanced. So I've been getting half the signal by hooking up a balanced cable to it. that's weird. Not sure why they'd make the xlr balanced and the 1/4" unbalanced. I'll try the xlr's and see if that helps....

I thought I had tried that, but maybe not. I'll try again :D

My Camplifier 180 arrived. So happy right now :D This is the most compact live-setup I ever had, yet probably the best sounding.

Congrats! Im very interested in this as well.. If u ever get to make clips of amp -> cab, then kpa -> cab with the latter disabled in the kpa that wuld be amazing..
Feedback so far? How do u think it sounds compared to the amp cab setup?

question.. do u think the poweramp is useful for studio recording? line in to interface.. would it make a difference on the sound quality? or is it just for live gigs and such?

Thanks Josh, It's the tone of the week nr 6 (search TOTW on the kemper site) doubletracked. and a diezel amp on the other two tracks.. all is quadtracked and the strings are dead as fuck lol.

Great...what cabinet are you using with it?
For band practice a Mesa 4x12, and live the provided backline (I never take my cab with me) so mostly Marshall 1960(AV) and ENGL I guess.

I won't use it in the studio. I think recording a basically already miked sound with a microphone won't give you good results.. but perhaps it works. But it's not my intention and somewhere on the Kemper forums KPA-Solutions also said they didn't it for that purpose.
