True, but its the same as you picking apart Opeth fans in Opeth threads because of their musical tastes. Not that i mind at all, its a laugh.

i dont think ive ever picked apart Opeth fans in an opeth appreciation thread, UNLESS some ass clown starts going on about how surpassed the beatles are by Opeth or something ridiculous like that.

Good god i hope your joking about OL and Riverside.

I wasn't joking about Riverside...
I'm surprised that you don't think the same..
As for OL I would replace them with Pain of Salvation....

What bands besides Opeth do you think are worthy?

I agree it's remarkable... Those two bands are at the top of the metal world...

Can't handle King Dimond due to the shitty vocal delivery... There are way too many other bands to spend time listening too!
I'm speechless. :zombie:

I heard Abigail when I was young, and while I enjoyed the music quite a bit, the vocals turned me off at the time as well. Then I saw KD live on the Voodoo tour and I was an instant fan. How someone could say King has a shitty vocal delivery is beyond me, but to each his own. Since this is a King Diamond fan thread, I fail to see the point in posting unless you simply want a flame war. Good news about the new album nearing completion. I was dissapointed in Puppet Master, although it did have some good songs. For anyone who hasn't seen the King live, do it before you die or he does.

Sorry but imho KD's voice is horrible. His lower singing sounds a bit similar, but even worse than Dave Mustaine, and his high singing is simply not for me. The music is excellent but the vocals really ruin it for me, and as obviously already stated numerous times in this thread, also for other people. The fact that some of you people can stand his vocals has nothing to do with "superior musical tastes" (which doesn't exist anyway, only degrees of more or less extensive musical ignorance), just with a different musical taste, background, and history with KD. Get over yourselves.

The Official Forum is mainly about appreciation, to find out various things about the band. I wouldnt come here if i didn love Opeth. And i obviously dont blame you for doing that as anyone with sense would. I just dont like King Diamond, id like to say i never will, but maybe when i get a change of heart il end up listening to it.

I believe it was 1988 when I herd my first KD tune. A friend had bought Abigail, and we were listining to it in his car. At first it seemed a little rediculous, but it was a dark October night, and after hearing a few songs I was hooked.

I can see how some people might not care for the vocals, but it's an aquired taste. The only thing I can say is, give it a chance. Don't just listen to one song and say "This sucks". His vocals create a style all his own, they support the brutality of the story being told. Although not always pretty, neither is having your eyeballs plucked out (Puppet Master).

There is also some seasonality for me with KD. I find during the Fall of the year, that's when I enjoy the King the most. Shit is dying, the days are getting shorter, it just compliments the musical elements of KD's tunes.

My favorite KD is probably the Puppet Master or the Graveyard.

Long live the King

Something I am curious about: The first time anyone here has heard this dudes singing, did they think "wow, he sounds good!" - or did it take you all hours of abuse to your ears to be able to endure it?
The first time I heard him I thought that he sounded similar to Rob Halford but different and with more range. I was hooked immediately.
The only vocalists I think are as amazing as the King are Chuck Schildiner (RIP), Rob Halford, Eric Adams, Tim Aymar, Jim Gillette (too bad that the only thing good about Nitro is the musicianship, the music is fucking terrible and I hate Jim's glam vocals) and Jon Oliva.

King does stay in tune and you should hear him hold a note. Even when I watch the Live In Eindhoven bootleg from 1983, my TV practically shakes from his power. Whether he's talking to the fans, his talking voice has more power than the loudest shouts from Tom Araya in his prime, or showing off his falsetto in between songs, I dare you to find another vocalist who can do that.
You're just not a fan of his falsetto, but the fact that he has diehard fans who are into all kinds of music but are still huge King/Mercy fans says something. Especially when they know The Puppetmaster note for note, as well as being part of the whole tape trading scene with Mercyful Fate 25 years earlier.
I don't know where the hell anyone got the idea that he has no emotion in his voice. His mid range vocals are full of emotion. Listen to The Puppetmaster. Most of the vocals on that album are deeper and very emotional sounding. Even back in the day on the song Melissa he sounded very emotional.

I have never listend to King Diamond in my life. Overall, is it worth bothering with? There's a serious confliction of opinions it seems. Who can they be likened to?

ask over at opethforum, you'll get a far better response

you gotta love the king, the man never took a singing lesson in his whole life yet he can sing like nobody else, thats fucking amazing
