The only thing that has come from Last.fm is some guy insulting my music tastes. Which aren't properly represented because it doesn't scrobble my ipod

Apparently it does it if you automatically sync your ipod but I do it manually. Otherwise I can't quite understand it

to be fair it did just recommend me a pretty good band from about 100 tracks played.
only 700 plays scrobbled for them. The Everscathed.

yeah it recommends a fair bit of crap but it does recommend based on what other people that like the same bands you do are listening to so there is at least some accuracy there. If you do want to scrobble from your ipod check out some of the third party programs i'd guess one of them must handle manual syncs

It's a mixture of awesome and ones that I don't particularly enjoy.
E.g. Anata or Alkonost followed by some metalcore or an 11 minute dark ambient track
