This should be interesting. What is your least favorite Anthrax songs, or which songs just haven't stood the test of time? Surprisingly my thoughts on certain songs have changed over the years, even more so with the brilliant new album (which I now consider their best--- it used to be P.O.T.) Even Scott has said that about 25% of each album has sucked, up until now.
Here's mine, and a few thoughts on each. I don't want any crap about not being a "real fan" or any of the business, since they've been my favorite band since the early 90's and I still support them wholeheartedly.
I'll try to take the songs from the respective albums:
1. Tester/Dropped the Ball/Bare - Were it not for these 3 songs, Stomp 442 would have been a much better album. The music isn't too bad, but the melodies are forced at best, and Bush sounds uncomfortable singing them.
2. Born Again Idiot/Alpha Male - Same as the songs from Stomp 442, just didn't make the cut, and get skipped by in the CD player.
3. Sodium Pentathol - I like 80% of the song, but the whole concept is kind of stupid, and the chorus grates on me.
4. One Man Stands - Again, about 80% of the song kicks ass, but the chorus falls on it's face
5. State of Euphoria Album - Be All End All, Finale, Now it's Dark, and Antisocial were great. The rest of the songs had great potential, but didn't get the attention they deserved in the vocals, lyrics, or melodies. I'd love to hear this CD completely reworked. All I have to do is hear Joey sing the church-choir like vocals on Make Me Laugh and I have to shut it off.
6. Indians and One World - Man, this is going to get me flamed since people on this board seem to LOVE Indians, but that song has gone from cool to cheesy really fast for me. I still love the music, but the lyrics are a little campy and I can still see Joey running around in the headdress and it makes me ill. Kind of brings to mind everything was cheesy about the late 80's metal-scene. One World was just plain bad from the get-go "Russians...they are only people like us..." Blech.
7. Medusa - Great riff, but lyrically pretty weak. It's hard for me to pick on Spreading the Disease though....for some reason it's like a time capsule. It's far from my favorite album, but it has a nostalic quality about it.
8. Metal Thrashing Mad - Actually this is still one of my favorites, but the lyrics are pretty stupid if you think about it. Sounds like the them song to 2 Fast, 2 Furious.
9. And the one song off of WCFYA, that makes the list: Strap it On. Man, this song is terrible. I've listened to every song on the album 100's of times since the album came out, but I just cannot stomach this song. Lyrics and melody just aren't up to par with the rest of the album. Apparently there is a B-Side called "Ghost" they did that was really good. Sounds to me like it should have been on the album instead. Where can I find that song anyway?
Well that's all I can think of for now. I'm sure I missed something, but that's a good start.
Flame away!
