also i dont get why people still think of the songs left off the short version of the album as bonus tracks when the band has clearly stated that the double disc version is what they considering the full real album. the only reason the short version exists is cuz nuclear blast think it will make them more money

I wonder how this will play out when the band tours again. Do you guys think they'll play LUTN, Lords, or Reign to increase sales for the special edition, or do you think they won't play them (since many people will buy the single-disc version and may not be familiar with the songs)?

I like Reign, but I'd rather hear other stuff from this album (or older stuff). The other two I hope they never play live.

I think LUTN is more or less the spiritual successor to Set the World on Fire, which could be seen as the successor to Inferno given their similar themes relative to their respective albums, song structure, etc. With that in mind, I can definitely see it as a regular part in their set list.

I'm not sure what song I like the least since beyond Iconoclast and WAIL, I have to kinda be in the mood to listen to the other stuff, so it varies often.

Why do people hate Heretic? ;<

Voted Bastards - Awful chorus. Iconoclast also has quite an appalling chorus and there's also some other songs I've left out of my playlists. Dunno if I've listened to them enough, but at the moment it's definitely bastards of the machine I'll vote.

I really like all 3 of those songs, so I would like them to play them, but I was thinking about this as well... and I sorta don't think they will because they don't want people who bought the one disc version to feel alienated or some crap. I hope I am wrong though.

Considering the 4 songs they already played live (Innocence, Heretic, Prometheus, Dehumanized) I bet they will end up playing mostly those and if we see any other songs it will probably be the title track and WAIL because those seem to be the most popular... plus Romeo said Iconoclast is currently his favorite song.

They picked those songs for live because they are mid-tempo and somewhat "easy" for the audience. Heretic they only played once as it's a bit faster and maybe slightly harder to grasp, but I'm guessing that one will be on their future live sets. As for which other songs they will play, it's a bit early to draw any conclusions, don't you think? ;E

I see your point about the choruses but they are growing on me, BUT, I do advance the song at the end to avoid a minute long rehash of the choruses. I dont like LIght up the Night or the slow one. Everything else sounds really good. Especially Iconoclast.

But its never early to speculate. Im sure they will play 4 PL songs 3-4 IC songs, inferno, OSAS, maybe SOL, and Odyssey....thats it.

Iconoclast songs will most likely be what they have been playing live already.

I have to say, that was my least favorite but I did not give that a fair listen at all. I dig that song, I think LUTN is my least fave on the album. It doesnt have the polish, I guess you could say, that the other songs possess. WAIL has a very classy, evocative element that is Rush like in its prog appeal, in the middle section.

I like Bastards because of the groovy rhythm as well as the way Russell phrases the verses in the song. Its catchy as hell. Great song to rock out to.

I really like the music in Bastards, even if it is quite simple for Symphony X. The verses and the intro/interlude is really interesting with the mechanical keyboard sound. I usually dislike this sound (preferring something more natural-sounding such as a piano), but for this song I feel that it works. The chorus, however, is extremely weak - easily the weakest on the album.

Agreed...chorus is shit compared to most of the others. Its a straight hard rock/metal song and I think that's why people are dogging it so hard. I listen to it for the fun of the song at that moment...not to hear a melodic keyboard or some crazy guitar solos. I can appreciate it for exactly what it is, a hard rocking groovy track. Wicked had the same vibe to me off the Odyssey. Obviously a tremendously better song, but both songs are, for the most part straight edge groove metal.

I don't care so much for the chanting after the second chorus with the breakdown but I don't let that ruin the entire song for me at all. I think the song is being picked apart too much for what it is.

I absolutely love the phrasing after the first chorus, "...Ooooooor spin them webs, of lust and greed!" Allen rocks that shit.

Yeah, the verses of the song are amazing. Like I've said before, I basically consider the song to not have a chorus, it's so small and unimportant - it's like a placeholder between the pre-chorus and the next verse. Until the last one at least, which I can understand people disliking because of the chanting (although I've never had a probem with chanting, and don't get why people hate whenever it appears in a song or two by a great band). But even that chorus has some more vocals from Allen and some little bits of instrumentation that make it worth listening to.

Voted for: Light Up the Night

Save for Shades of Grey, I sincerely believe this is the worst song Symphony X has ever written/recorded. It is a complete fail before the chorus hits...and then, well...the chorus hits. :/

If it wasn't for the completely atypical main riff of Lords of Chaos (a riff that I personally LOVE), I would have voted for that song. "We rule." 'Nuff said.

Man, I hope they play Lords of Chaos at every live show for the next 10 years just to piss off all the haters :P

SX should take that proposition up a notch and start playing Savage Curtain live at every show, even when they're an opening act. Can't forget the roots :p
