^^ my Lextac tone

Mine is single tracked using 4 instances of lextac (that will eventually lead to double tracking). No bass and is very sloppy:ill:, sorry for that but i think the tone is very close. Wait till about 0:20 or so to hear it.

A little more tweaking and I think I'll have it.

Well well well your tone is killer but i'd say it's more "modern metal" sounding than Jerry Cantrell's, but you're playing a rock-ish riff so that's why one would think about Cantrell listening to it :)

I'm glad you like it, but I don't know if I would call the tone "modern" other than the fact that it's tuned down to Cb. You might notice there is a lack of mid scoop that defines what I think of as most "modern metal" tones in favor of creamy very present mids....In my personal opinion anyway. Thanks for the comment, I'm going to keep working on it as I start to use it in mixes and see what happens.

LePou, if Line6 don't hire you to design the amp sims for their POD-whatever to come they better give up the business... Congrats! ;)
I mean, you've got the code ready, even for cab impulses - they just need to hire you and implement it in the new gadget...

I tested this on a Guthrie Govan song. Sounds pretty sweet! There's some sloppy playing here and there since I didn't bother to record that many takes for the test. I think it's character is pretty similar to Cornford amps. Impluse is Metaltastic's JSX Mesa Stiletto (57 On-Axis 1 More Pres).

Thanks LePou!

Thanks LePou!

Lead tone and playing are AMAZING dude ! Did you use a chorus or something or is that just a "regular" lead tone ?

yeah i do agree with you though, it's still a mid-heavy rock-ish tone, just less "modern" than Cantrell's IMO

Been trying ampsims for the first time lately, and i love this one ! I used it for a metal rythm tone, but i guess it's gonna excel at chunky rock a la Alice In Chains.

Quick mix (ultra-sloppy playing, strings older than your deceased grandma, shitty bass programming (Trilian VSTi), shitty drums programming (Superior 2), sloppy premastering, etc), dualtracked (1 guitar (similar guitars but different tonal balance) hard-panned on each side, ampsim EQ and gain are slightly different from one side to another too), HP/LP post-EQ in my DAW :

1) LeXtac (Bogner Ecstasy ampsim) + PI-FREE (Marshall 412 V30 close miked w. SM57 + LowCut) :

2) TSE808 (clean boost sim) + LeXtac (Bogner Ecstasy ampsim, Low Contour) + PI-FREE (Marshall 412 V30 close miked w. SM57 + LowCut + slight post-EQ) :

3) TSE808 (clean boost sim) + LeXtac (Bogner Ecstasy ampsim, High Contour) + PI-FREE (Marshall 412 V30 close miked w. SM57 + LowCut + slight post-EQ) :

A clean boost helps a ton to get a mix-ready metal tone. I like the Contour set pretty high to get that sharp hi mids pantera-ish sound, but i guess setting it lower helps have the guitar sound less detached and glue more with the bass.

Gave LexTac another shot, this time with some other DIs of mine, punk-rock cover, with my new E-standard Fender Telecaster SE FMT axe.

I love it and i think in single coil mode it can slay for chunky grungy heavy rock a la Alice In Chains/Jerry Cantrell !!!

Quick punk-rockish (Wisdom In Chains' "Cap City" riff) tone test with my new guitar : Fender Telecaster Special Edition FMT.
TSE 808 (clean boost sim VST) LexTac (Bogner-like ampsim VST) into the Two Notes Torpedo PI-FREE (miking sim plugin) with some post-EQ.
One track on each side.
Sloppy playing, old strings.
