In Flames - Man Made God
Katatonia - Inside The City Of Glass
Mayhem - (Weird) Manheim
Soilwork - Centro De Predomino

That is all that I can think of right now.

That list mostly sucks, listen to these:

Demigod - Perpetual Ascent (best ever)
The Chasm - Deathcult Arrival
Seance - Hidden Under Scars
Seance - Wind Of Gehenna
Liers In Wait - Gateways
Crypt Of Kerberos - The Sleeping God
God Macabre - Teardrops

I'm thinking of actual metal songs, by the way, not just an intstrumental composed by a metal band.

I like the fact that you singled out Jason Becker's "Altitudes".

@ Malignance: Interesting concept. What about At the Gates - The Scar. Arguably "not metal". But I don't think you can single it out from the rest of the album as being such. It needs to be considered in the context of the album and would therefore be metal. I would suggest most good albums are the same with their instrumentals.

Moonsorrow - "Tuulen Koti"
Rapture - "For the Ghosts of our Time"
Shape of Despair - "Sleep Mirrored"
Shape of Despair - "Night's Dew"
ISIS - "Altered Course"
Dream Theater - "Stream of Conciousness"
Borknagar - "Matter and Motion"
Darkest Hour - "Ethos" (check this out if you usually brush the band off as another metalcore band, they can shred)
Darkest Hour - "Veritas, Aequitas"
Nodes of Ranvier - "Number Four" (the second half is fucking beautiful)
In Flames - "Wayfaerer"
In Flames - "Man Made God"

Anything by Pelican
Most songs by The Fucking Champs
Sleep Terror
Old Thales stuff (the "A World Beyond" demo)

thats pretty good for now

Brutality : violent generation,awakening,esoteric,spirit world,sympathy
Mercyful Fate : room of golden air
King Diamond : cremation,something weird
Gorguts : testimonial ruin, waste of mortality
Death : cosmic sea
Cynic : textures
Cathedral : texting

As I said, it's just a start. They were the tracks I could think off off the top of my head.

That's fine. I initially started searching for actual metals songs, but quickly found that many bands had done awesome instrumentals that could possibly not be considered 'metal'. I'll agree with misfits comment on this.

Everyone else: Thanks for the additions. A fair number of these I haven't heard before, and will definitely be checking them out.

I may try to find some time to setup a proper site and DB for these if the list becomes large enough, as I've not seen anything similar... I'll at least merge them into the list at the top after I return from work.

I'm a sucker for good instrumentals.
